“Many of his plays were published in editions of varying quality and accuracy during his lifetime. In 1623, John Heminges and Henry Condell, two friends and fellow actors of Shakespeare, published the First Folio, a collected edition of his dramatic works that included all but two of the plays now recognized as Shakespeare's. It was prefaced with a poem by Ben Jonson, in which Shakespeare is hailed, presciently, as "not of an age, but for all time."”

I was scribbling down notes as fast as I could. The lecturer in my Elizabethan Literature class was speaking abnormally quickly. I could have just said “screw it” and be done, but I had never gotten below a ninety on any paper and I had no intensions on beginning now.

“Does anyone know what mistake Shakespeare made when writing ‘Romeo and Juliet’?”

A girl in the back raised her hand. “He didn’t. Shakespeare was careful enough with his writing that he didn’t make any mistakes. He was a perfectionist.”

I rolled my eyes. Not even bothering to raise my hand, I said “That’s not true. The Capulets and Montagues were supposed to be equals in every way. ‘Two houses, both alike in dignity’. But Shakespeare accidently made the Montagues better people than the Capulets by having Tybalt kill Mercutio for sport, and giving Romeo a legitimate motive.”

The lecturer nodded at me then another voice called out “Not to mention the Montagues loved Romeo more than the Capulets loved Juliet.”

And so the debate was off. Yeah I knew my Shakespeare. Not for academic reasons. I just loved how he wrote about love and passion and humanity. I wanted to be able to write about emotions the way he did, but in song.

When we were dismissed I ran to the nearest coffee cart. I don’t know why but coffee was sort of a life source for me. I got that from my mother too. I shook my head and paid the coffee guy.

“Hey, Amy.”

I jumped, the nervous wreck I was. But then I saw it was just Jordan from my Lit class. I immediately relaxed. “Hi, Jordan.” I said.

He shook his head then flipped his dirty blond hair to the side. “I see you’re getting some coffee.”

I nodded. “It’s only my life source.” I said. He coughed. “Right. Well. I was wondering what you were doing tomorrow night.”

“Oh….” I said. “Well…” I saw his green eyes twinkle with anticipation. I felt uncomfortable so I looked down. “I have to work tomorrow night” I said as quickly as possible. I stared down at my black boots but I heard the disappointment in his voice. “Oh. Well okay. Let me know if you change your mind.” He said and handed me a piece of notebook paper with his number on it, then walked away without waiting for my answer. Well CLEARLY he knew what I was going to say and didn’t feel like letting me say it. I folded up the paper and put it in my pocket then went to my next class.

The day went by as usual and I got through all my classes in what felt like an hour but in reality was more like four. Everything went by so fast. Usually I wouldn’t have noticed how quickly everything went. But something felt different.

The set I played was consisted of the songs “I’m yours” by Jason Mraz, “Where You Lead” by Carol King, “Brighter Than the Sun” by Colby Callait “Iris” by Googoo Dolls, “Eyes Open” by Taylor Swift and “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” by KT Tunsall.

I felt a little fear upon my back, I said don’t look back just keep on walkin. And the big black horse, he looked this way and said “Hey little babe will you marry me?” and I said-

I cut myself off. Across the street I saw someone who looked a lot like the guy from last night. I couldn’t be sure because the sun was shining. But he looked like him. Shaved head, and perfect figure. Except now he was wearing a blue plaid button up shirt with a gray t shirt underneath. I was going to wave hi just to be sure but…wouldn’t that be weird? Yes it would. But I didn’t stop myself from staring. Yes, that was definitely him. He walked the same way, with an easy stride that implied he was relaxed but had a purpose.
