"Oh my God," Kinsey murmured, unable to look away from the window "All those people,"

The sight of it made my blood run cold. How could one person have the power to control so many? How could Gabe make an entire town slaves to his will? It made me feel sick. Seeing him like this firsthand- seeing who he really was.

There was a banging noise from the kitchen. Persistent and desperate, as though someone was hounding the door. We collectively chose to ignore it, each of us holding our breath.

"Kins its me, please, you gotta let me in!" I arched a brow at Kinsey, silently asking her what to do.  Scot was here. What was Scot doing here?

It was Tyler who spoke instead, voicing my own thoughts "Don't let him in, what if he's been turned?"

"And what if he's not?" Kinsey retorted, snatching the keys from him. I knew she loved him too much to care. She didn't want to risk him being turned if he wasn't already. Like Tyler had lost Jackie, like I had lost Gabe. "I'm letting him in." The look on her face had none of us daring to argue with her. I knew that nothing any of us could say would be enough to make Kinsey change her mind.

"What if we made a key?" Bode offered. I could practically hear the cogs in his head turning as he mulled over the best way out of this. "To make all the people human again?"

I couldn't dispute the fact that it wasn't a bad idea, but we were faced with three major problems: the first being that we had no whispering iron, not forgetting about the fact we couldn't exactly leave the house of get some, and also the minuscule setback that we didn't have the slightest clue how to make a key.

But Duncan did.

"We could use the Anywhere Key to get to Javi's house, then it's not far down to the caves." Tyler suggested to us. I had no clue if the tide was in, if it was even possible to reach the door.

I mulled over it for a moment. There were far too many 'what ifs' with this plan, but what choice did we have? Gabe had us backed into a corner, again. "Gabe knows I have the Anywhere Key, he might have people all over town."

Kinsey and Scot crept into the foyer, hand in hand. I resisted the urge to sigh at the sight of them. Here they were, whilst my deranged demon boyfriend was outside with an army of what... demon shopkeepers? "It's a risk worth taking," Kinsey said, glancing at Scot "We could save all those people,"

"Yeah, and maybe save ourselves when they get inside." Scot added. His clothes were torn, his cheeks flushed. I didn't want to think what the world outside was doing to the survivors. I didn't want to think about all the people whose family and friends were already on Gabe's side, those with no idea about magic or what was happening to their loved ones.

I cast my eyes back to the window. All I could see now was darkness, coating everything like tar. I had that panicked feeling in the pit of my stomach. My body knew something bad was coming, even if my mind tried to convince me otherwise.  "Okay let's do it then. Who goes, who stays?"

"I can go with Scot?" Kinsey offered, her eyes on the Anywhere Key I held like a lifeline. "You guys just stay put until we're back,"

It was once they'd used the key on the door to the Winter Study and slipped away to Javi's house, talking our only means of escape with them, that we heard it.

Glass shattered upstairs. I knew a window had been broken, I could picture them crawling through it, not reacting to the shards of glass that drew blood against their thighs as the mass of bodies pooled into the house.

"They're inside," Bode whispered, "What do we do- we don't have time to make a key?"

Shit. Shit. Shit.
