"You're not the Adrian I fell in love with." She whispered. "The Adrian I knew loved me, and would have never entertained the idea of betraying me." Her voice broke as she held in her sobs. "He promised me he would never kiss another as he kissed me."

The tears in her eyes dropped to the cold floor as Adrian watched with desperation. He knew that if tried to come near her she wouldn't hesitate to leave him for good. He would lose her for good if he made the wrong move.

He knew that Selene was a powerful mage just like his father, and if she felt threatened she would use her magic against him or worse on herself.

"I trusted you with every fiber of my being. I would have given up my soul to be with you again because I held onto your promise." Selene said as she looked at him with betrayal in her amethyst eyes. "And deep down, I had always hoped that you would've looked for me as I had for you. I gave up everything for you."

Adrian could not answer, shame filling up his body. She begged for his life to his father. She promised to never use her magic against Dracula and would lay down her own life if it would mean he would spare him. His father spared her because he had always treated Selene as his own. Instead, Dracula banished her, stripping her of her rank in his court and forbade Selene to see Adrian ever again as long as Dracula lived. To his father, this was the perfect punishment for her because he knew how much Selene loved Adrian more than her own life, and in turn just like him, his son who went against him would lose the love of his life.

He was brought back to reality when he heard a small clanking of metal. Selene had taken off the ring. The ring she treasured so much. The ring that signified their promise to each other.

"Selene, please..." Adrian had dropped to his knees, begging her as she did when she begged Dracula to spare the man she loved. "Forgive me... I was a fool... I know I do not deserve you... But please..." he had started to cry, his voice breaking as he watched her eyes lose the bright fire they held. She looked so broken. "Give me another chance... I cannot live now that I know you are alive and resent me..." He begged as he watched her slowly get up, leaving the ring on the floor. He wanted to touch her, hold onto her and stop her from walking away. His vision blurred as his eyes filled with tears, refusing to stop falling. He watched her leave his room, not once turning back to look at him.

He sobbed as he crawled to where she left the ring. He took it, holding onto it.

He knew she would leave now. She would never return to him. His sobs became a bitter laugh. He laughed at his pathetic predicament, how the betrayal made by humans still haunted him and now had caused Selene to walk away from him.

Selene cried as she changed into her clothes. She wiped her tears as she placed her cloak on herself. She didn't want to stay here. She needed to get away from him. She felt that everything she held onto the past years were pitiful dreams of a child.

She left, using her magic to cloak her presence so that he could not use the viewing mirror to find her. She returned to the direction she came from. She ran once again, now away from the castle. She ran as fast as she could, wanting to create distance between herself and the man who broke her heart. Selene had been running for several days.

When she felt that there was enough distance between her and Adrian, she decided to take her time. She had been traveling for two months when she saw a familiar caravan.

Sypha felt her presence and turned to look at her.

Selene's POV

"Selene!" Sypha said in surprise, but she offered a warm smile. I gave a small tired smile and she frowned.

"I thought you went to that shithead Alucard." Trevor commented with a frown as he studied me. I knew I looked sullen, defeated, completely resigned.

"I did." I whispered looking down as I instinctively reached where my ring used to be.

Sypha saw this and frowned when she saw that my ring was no longer there.

"What happened to your ring? You said it was precious to you." She asked gently.

I bit my lip. "I returned it to him. I held onto it because it was his promise to me, but I was naive to think he would keep his promise after all these years."

Sypha frowned and she took my hand. "Come, we can have dinner and you can tell me what's on your mind."

I nodded and let her lead me to the campfire they had made. She handed me an apple and I watched Trevor cook fish he caught from a nearby stream over the campfire.

Sypha sat beside me and offered me a soft smile. "You may not have known me for long, but I promise you that whatever you decide to tell me, I will honor it."

I offered her a tired smile. "Thank you, Sypha."

"So, what is that asswipe Alucard to you?" Trevor asked as he looked at me with curiosity.

"Trevor!" Sypha scolded but I shook my head and placed a hand on her hand.

"It's okay, Sypha." I replied softly. "To answer your question, Trevor, before everything turned into a shitshow, I always thought I'd marry him."

His eyes widened and I laughed.

"We were childhood friends. Being a dhampir didn't really help with meeting people who would want to be your friend. Humans feared us, vampires loathed us. We were looked upon as abominations by both races."

Sypha gave my hand a gentle squeeze.

"My father had married my mother in secret. He knew if other vampires found out they would kill them. When Dracula married Lisa, my father finally confessed to him. Adrian-Alucard was born a year before me. My father and mother would take me to stay with the Tepes family, and Adrian and I became close friends."

Trevor had taken the fish from the fire and handed Sypha and I each our own piece of fish. I thanked him and he nodded.

"He had given me the ring when he first told me how he felt about me and promised me I would be the only one... but when I reached the castle..."

"What happened?" Sypha asked me gently

I took a deep breath. "He confessed that he had been with someone else."

"What the fuck? Didn't think he would be some manwhore." Trevor shouted, choking on his food. He earned a glare for Sypha. I smiled at how he immediately shut up when he saw her threatening glare.

I didn't answer, only looked down. "I suppose it was foolish of me to hope that he would stay loyal to his promise... To me..."

Trevor and Sypha frowned.

"He's an asshole." Trevor commented. "But I didn't think he would be sleeping around"

"When did he even get the time?" Sypha asked thoughtfully. "And who?"

"I couldn't stay after he confessed." I told them.

"What do you plan to do now?" Sypha asked me.

"Probably wander for a while to get my mind off of things."

"I see." Sypha replied. "Take your time to heal."

"Thank you, Sypha. Your company has lifted my spirits." I told her sincerely.
