It bothered Obi-Wan, that muffled blanket of quiet that had fallen upon the Archives as soon as he had entered the dusty old rooms. Every head turned away the moment he met its accusing eyes, as though he had committed crimes in recent days and everybody was eager for gossip.

What was more Jocasta Nu haunted the aisles like a swiftly approaching shadow. Obi-Wan respected her indeed; why, he considered her an amazing person and a valued compatriot--but he only wished that she would stop hovering over him like a vulture every time he attempted a peruse of the shelves. Madame Nu didn't like people touching the records.

At last he settled down behind one of the database screens, clicking open its files. The blue light of the personal report columns shone vividly in his eyes. He conducted an alphabetical search of one name: 'Moonildt'.

Obi-Wan had his misgivings about prying into his padawan's personal information. He found it very helpful to know an apprentice's history--their past life, their family, the way that they were raised; specifics such as these were crucial to understanding how to teach a pupil, because everybody learned in different ways. Oftentimes, it was the Master's job to fit the padawan, not the other way around.

Besides, Obi-Wan highly doubted that any external records would reveal anything that Y/N intended to keep clandestine. In the event that they did, lucky for Y/N--Obi-Wan wasn't one to disclose his friends' secrets.

Refer to Anakin and Padmé, he thought with a little huff.

A little blinking light told Obi-Wan that the search process was complete. He briefly filed through a long list of people bearing the name 'Moonildt', before finally settling on your personal records.

But something gave him pause. Right up there--in between your file, and a great ancestor's--in the place where your distant relatives or cousins from an older generation should have been, there instead was displayed an ERROR query message and a bright red, blinking 'X' icon. He clicked on it. Nothing. The file was just...gone. Vanished. Leaving a blank space in the computer's memory.

Impossible. Perhaps the archives are incomplete. Obi-Wan stroked his beard, deeply in thought.

By now, your files were the least of his priorities. This gap in information was far more dangerous. With a growing sense of dread creeping over him, he set the process to 'repair files', then 'reorganize'; possibly, they had simply been misplaced or corrupted. Another error message.
