Wake up, Player

My eyes slowly opened to the endless stars dotted across the night sky, watching them dance in an endless effort to stay together against the ever-expanding universe. I know they will fail, and yet I cannot look away from such a beautiful display.

Then I heard the sounds of a...city? I believe that's what it's called. I heard a small number of cars drive down a road, the people inside those cars eager to return to their homes, or driving to work for their first shifts of the night. They couldn't be doing anything else. It's too dark to do much else.

Then I felt the ground beneath me, the cold stone-like ground that stretched out far into my surroundings. I didn't bother to see just how far it stretched. The stars were too beautiful for me to bother looking at anything else.

Then my next sense came back, and I could smell the city around me. I could smell the concrete I laid against, along with the cold wind of the night that brought a shiver to my skin. October. It was most likely October, if the cold night was anything to go by.

It was only when my last sense, my taste, finally came back did I decide I needed to know where I was, and who I was. I sat up and got to see just how far the cement stretched out, which was a bit farther than I thought it would go, but what seemed normal for an... Apartment? Store? I wasn't sure, but it's not important right now.

I stood up and felt my limbs finally wake up once more, ready to do whatever I asked of them. I asked them to move, and they did. I looked out across the city, feeling myself sit on the edge of the building I had woken up on. What time is it? The few lights and the position of the moon told me it's around midnight, but I suppose it might be a good idea to find a clock. Perhaps later, after I figure out where I am, and who "I" even is.

{Hello, Player!}

I rubbed my eyes a bit as a small, neon-blue screen appeared in front of me, irritating my eyes a bit. After a few seconds of getting used to the bright light, I decided to try and speak.

"H-... Hello?" My words came out slow, yet quickly I noticed my throat seemed fine despite me having not talked in... When was the last time I spoke? "What are you?" Memories can come later, first I need to know what this is, what it wants, and maybe find out if I can learn something from it.

{I am the system, but you can call me whatever you like. I am here to help you through the world of Boku no Hero Academia.}

"... Isn't that an anime?" My words came out before I had the chance to stop them, but honestly? I probably wouldn't have stopped them, even if I could. Boku no Hero Academia, or just MHA, is an anime that's currently going through season 6 if my memory serves me right... Wait, how do I remember a random anime but not my own name?

{You are a soul that died, but you were lucky enough to be chosen as a beta tester for the system! The world you were transferred to was chosen by random.}

... What?

============================================================

Welcome to chapter 1 of a new series I'm making! This short chapter was made as a starting point for the series, and wasn't made to be long, just long enough to introduce the concept a bit. No, this isn't a Y/N story, but if you want to replace the MC with yourself I can't exactly stop you.

Also, please be a bit patient when it comes to updates and new chapters. This is my second attempt at a fanfic and I want to make sure I do it right, so I'll be a bit slow with updates... I also need to re-watch MHA since I haven't seen it since Pre-covid, so once I reach the actual story of MHA, specifically after the USJ incident, updates might come slower than usual. If that does happen, I apologize in advance.

With all that being said, see you all in the next chapter!

Edit: Removed the poem at the start of the chapter. Felt too much like filler.
