Kai and Nya never had a good Christmas after their parents died. But there first one was the hardest for them.

Sitting at the table in this strange place. Sure it had been a few months since Dr. Saunders, or how he wanted them to call him, Krux took them in.

After he shaved his mustache, or as they later found out, just took off his disguise, he had acted harsher to the two of them.

Now the siblings sat in silence beside each other, the sound of their new caretakers fork tapping the plate as he ate his turkey, in front of them.

The two of them were not hungry, and even though they never got a lot for Christmas, this year, if felt like more was taken from them then should have been.

As there food grew cold, Krux's eyes wandered from his food, to the siblings. He knew how hard it was for the two of them to be in a new place, with a new person taking care of them, so he knew not to be as forward as he usually was.

"If you're not going to eat, place it in a carton in the fridge and go do what you wish." He said as he turned back to his own food.

Kai's eyes wandered to his plate and he picked up his fork. He felt like it be rude to just leave but his sister was not in the same.

She picked up her food and moved to the cupboard, standing on her tippy toes to reach the containers before looking to her brother for assistance.

Kai looked to his food and debated taking his plate but decided against it, moving to reach a container for his sister as she packed up her food and he placed it in the fridge for her.

Then it was just the two of them. Krux and Kai. Kai was slowly finishing his cold food, constantly taking a sip of the milk he had in a small orange cup on the table.

He knew why there parents weren't there, but he was waiting to tell Nya, in fear on how she might react.

"Are you alright?" Krux suddenly asked as he finished the last of his ham. Kai shrugged, even though he had known Dr. Saunders for a while, this Krux guy was so different.

"You know I couldn't just leave you to fend for yourself. To leave two children in a blacksmithing shop would just be cruel." He started. Kai could tell that he had a bit of bitterness in his voice.

"I'm sorry that this...isn't the Christmas you were hoping for." He said as Kai looked up at him. He then moved over to the side, reaching down and lifting up a large box. "I did not mean to go through your father's belongings. But he showed me this, and I could not allow it to fall into the hands of a pawner."

He pushed the black case towards the boy and Kai looked at it. He then stood up and reached to it, popping the two locks and opening it.

A large golden, double edged sword with a symbol of fire and water inscribed in the centre.  Kai looked in awe at the shining weapon as Krux came around and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I believe he would have wanted you two to have it." He said as he moved to take the two dishes to the sink. Kai looked at him then back at the sword. He closed the box and moved to go to his room, wanting to show Nya.

As he opened the door with a harsh push he was hoping to find his sister playing a game of some sort, he had a large smile on his face that took a moment to disappear when he saw his little sister curled in a ball silently crying.

He closed the door and placed the case on his bed, moving to his sister and sitting beside her.

His sister sat up and curled into his arm and he rubbed her head. As she sniffled and let out a sad hiccup, she spoke.

"Why aren't mom and dad here?" She asked looking up at her brother. Kai let out a sigh.

"They...they aren't here...anymore. But it's ok! Krux is going to take good care of us." Kai said, trying to comfort the girl.

"But why aren't they here? Why aren't we at home...I want to go home Kai." She said as another tear formed on her face. Kai felt crushed by how his sister wanted to go back, but he also understood.

"We...can't go back Nya..." He said as he tried to not start crying himself. "Moma and Papa...they can't take care of us anymore and...and if they can't take care of us we can't go back-"

"But why?! Why can't we go back?! Why do we have to stay here?!" His sister questioned and though she was only four, Kai knew she'd understand.

The next morning was hard. Both waking up curled together. Nya was up first and, not wanting to disturb her brother, slowly got out of bed and walked out of there room.

Down the hallway she went, she didn't know why, but she walked.

She stumbled into the living room where Krux was sitting on the couch reading a newspaper. He noticed the girl and placed the paper down.

"You're up early." He commented as he moved over to let her sit. "Come here, I have a gift for you."

Even though Nya never really liked him, she did like gifts and quickly climbed onto the couch.

Kurx lifted a small wrapped box from a side table and gave it to her. She quickly ripped into it and there was a small box.

She lifted the lid off and found a small knife; reds and blues lining the blade with a black handle.

"Now you be careful with that, but that's what I want you to use if you ever feel scared ok?" Krux said and she looked up at him. For the first time she hugged him, it was quick and she made her way to her room but she still hugged him.

Krux knew how hard it was and he really didn't want them to feel overwhelmed. He knew he could have gotten them more stuff, or less, they probably would still feel the same about there new living situations.

But Krux felt a bit better knowing they both accepted his gifts, even if it was the bare minimum, they still deserved something.

So...I know a Christmas special should be happy...buuut I feel like that wouldn't have been interesting. I gave yall a happy ending ok?

Lmao ya sorry I made it Angsty but I felt like a look into the siblings early lives would be a nice way to write and IM HELLA SORRY that there's no Chapter 15 before this one but as yall know, this book is like a play on the Hand of Time season so I need to be watching the show to know how to write it.

Plus rewatching my favourite season (don't come for me) is nice to do when I have existent time...which I do not have.

Anyway Happy Holidays peeps, and I wish yall a happy new year!
