The next day, Ali greeted Carter, saying, "Hey?" Carter, avoiding her, began to walk away, but Ali reached for his hand and implored, "Wait!"
Carter, visibly disinterested, asked, "What do you want?" Ali, still holding his hand, said, "I just want to talk about yesterday." Carter, in a cold tone, replied, "Well, there isn't much to talk about," and snatched his hand away.
Ali, wide-eyed, persisted, "What about the project?" She stood to catch up with him. Carter, walking ahead, remarked dismissively, "Yeah? Later."
Ali, still following him, insisted, "But the deadline is almost up." Carter, walking away, declared, "We're ahead, so we'll skip today." Ali, not one to back down, asked, "Why are you avoiding me?" She grabbed his arm, and they locked eyes.
After a tense moment, Ali let go, and they both looked away. In a cold tone, Carter uttered, "You're really starting to bother me." Ali, on the verge of tears, grabbed her belongings and walked away, leaving Carter to continue his path, the distance between them growing with each step
