The whole Dwarka was delighted. It was the birthday of their beloved princess. No one could really believe that their little princess was already 10 years old. It was just a few days ago when they got the news of having a princess, a few days ago when she roamed in the whole Dwarka, buying something or the other or simply interacting. Now, she was more indulged in her schooling which was done in the palace itself.
The palace, just like the whole city, was decorated. Everyone was indulged in some or the other activities. Some were greeting the guests who just arrived, some were in the kitchen, preparing her favourite dishes, some went away to personally invite a few people, etc.
Everyone was excited.
The grand celebration began in the afternoon and went on till evening, after which everyone went to sleep in their respective rooms, except Charumathi. She was upset. From her father.
Pouting, she stood in front of his room and knocked, "Pitashri?" She called out.
Shri Krishna opened the door with a smile and was a bit surprised, as per the expressions he put on, upon seeing Charumathi with a sad pout. Whereas Charumathi went straight inside, beneath his arms and sat on his bed. She crossed her arms upon her chest while keeping the pout intact.
Shri Krishna chuckled a little and sat beside her. Charumathi simply turned her face to the other side. Shri Krishna smiled and said, "Why is my Dulari upset from me?" While stroking her hair.
"Pitashri you rarely come home. You were late even today. And then you did not even give me a gift!!" Charumathi whined.
Shri Krishna smiled and pulled his daughter in a side hug. "I have many more duties to fullfill Dulari." He said.
"I know Pitashri! But I wanted you to be present with me along with the complete family."
"Everything doesn't go as we wish them to, Charumathi. Life always has its own plans. It doesn't work the way we want it to."
Charumathi looked at him curiously. "So does that mean I'll never have all my family's members with me on my birthday ever?" She asked him, sadness clearly flowing.
Shri Krishna's smile dimmed a bit. "You never know that Dulari! Maybe you will get all of us together at your birthday, maybe... Not! But that should never stop you from appreciating whoever was present. And this is not just for your bithday." He said and Charumathi smiled a bit.
She was mature enough to understand what he meant and she promised herself to always remember whatever her father says. She turned herself and tightly hugged her beloved father. Her smile broadened and he hugged her back.
After pulling away from the hug, she said, "Uchchit hai! But where is my gift?" And a laugh erupted from his throat.
They spent some time with each other, Charumathi's head was on her father's lap and they were simply talking. About their family, about the Pandavas, about the Shastras, about the Universe, and so much more.
Not realising, Charumathi fell asleep on his lap while he was caressing her hair. Shri Krishna smiled and put her to her bed. Once she was settled, he left her room but not before lovingly pecking her forehead.
