She was nervous would be an understatement for the feeling busting inside Charumati. She had no idea how to convince him. She knew he won't agree but the small hope in her heart made her come to the palace and there she was, standing in front of her father's dorm, contemplating whether to go in or just walk away.
After convincing herself that simply talking about it won't harm, she decided to step in. At the sight of him laying on his bed with his arm on his forehead and his facial expression, she knew it wasn't the best time to talk. But she couldn't step back, not after she is already in front of him.
"Pitaji!" She meekly called out. Shri Krishna immediately opened his eyes and a smile broke on his face as he saw his daughter standing there.
"Dulari! Come sit here." He called her.
Charumati made her way to sit next to her father as he asked, "How come you're here so suddenly? Did you met everyone else?"
She softly shook her head as she spoke, "No, Pitaji. No one knows that I am here. I..." She added "Actually came here to meet you, specifically."
She watched his expressions stir as he signaled her to talk about what she was here for. She took a deep breath before proposing her request to him. Once she finally said it out loud, the look she saw on his face wavered the little hope in her heart.
"You already know my answer, Charumati." She flinched upon hearing her name. She knew he was serious about it.
"But Pitaji what is their fault? They want to fight for you not against you. You should protect them." She refused to give up.
"But that would mean that I have to go against my words. And I won't do that at any cost." He was determined to not go against his words.
"But, Pitaji-" Shri Krishna interrupted her. "Enough Charumati! You are home after a long while. I would rather want you to be meeting your family with a happy heart instead of getting into an argument which will leave us nowhere." He said and left the chamber leaving her behind with a storm swirling in her.
After meeting her family and staying with them for a little while, Charumati decided to leave before it gets too late. She thought to talk to her father once more, if in case he now changed his mind or if she is able to do so. She, for the first time today, saw something close to wrath in her father's eyes for her. For the first time in her life, she was not only nervous but also scared.
Upon meeting him, her small hope died down. Somewhere she knew what her talking about it would result in but she had to do it. For her family. To save, her family.
After a heated discussion, Charumati went home, dejected. She knew if she conveys what her father said to her husband, about not going back on his words at any cost, it won't really end good. She feared that if she comes out with it, it might create a rift between the two important men in her life. And that was something she couldn't let to happen at any cost.
Even after engaging herself in various house chores, the negative results this might bring occupied her mind. She just couldn't shake them off. Finally, as the night came upon, she made her mind to take the blame upon herself. she knew saying the truth will harm their relation so she decided to take the blame upon herself, saying that she couldn't visit them.
"What did Pitashree say? Did you have a word with him?" This was the first thing Bali said as soon as they were in their room. Drishti had already slept as soon as her Pitaji and her Pitamaha were home.
After a small moment of hesitance, Charumati finally said it out loud, taking the blame upon herself.
"WHAT!?" Screeched Bali. Charumati flinched as she knew that the only things that can make Bali angry were two things, one was disrespect of any human being, and the second was playing with anyone's life. Saying that she forgot to talk about this when she visited her natal home, she knew she was making a mistake.
"I-I am sorry," She whispered. Seeing tears in her eyes, Bali immediately regretted yelling at her. He took a deep breathe to calm himself. "I-Its okay. You can go there tomorrow, right?" He looked at her hopefully but his hope shattered into pieces as she shook her head.
"I visited them after a long time and so I couldn't remember to talk to him. A-and tomorrow Pitaji would leave for..." She defended. "You knew we just had today..." He whispered. Not knowing how to calm himself down, Bali walked out of their dorm and stormed out of the house to get some fresh air.
Charumati knew this might wound their relation but she firmly believed that love can mend everything. Maybe it could heal them too?
