Dwarka was filled with joy as soon as the marriage date was announced. 3 months and their princess would be married off. But, the date of the great war was nearing too. Irrespective of how happy they were, they were scared to say the least. Scared of what could be the outcomes of a war within a family. The war between the Kauravaas and the Pandavaas.
Everyone got engaged with the wedding preparations. The whole city was being decorated. Everyone was preparing for each and every function. All the citizens were invited to the palace for all the functions. Everyone started to prepare accordingly.
During the day, it was all flowers and colours one could see and at night, the city shined bright with all the lamps which were lightened by the citizens. It was a serene experience for everyone. It was as lively as it were a festival.
Three months passed in a jiffy. The wedding day was near. The functions were all lined up and no one from the family knew how to react. Be happy for the marriage taking place or be sad about not being able to see her every now and then?
There was a commotion in the the palace. Everyone was trying to fix something or the other.
Charumati, along with her sister-in-laws and her mothers, was in her dorm, getting ready for her function. A heavy lehnga, lots of gold jewelries and many, many people surrounding her.
Roka, as it is said now, was done before, on the day marriage date was fixed. It was her engagement today, followed by Haldi and Mehndi functions on the other day. The day next to it was reserved for the celebrations among the families through Sangeet and then finally, the day next to it was the wedding day.
"I can't believe that this day is arriving so soon." Expressed Satyabhama.
Charumati was dear to everyone. No matter how twisted their relationships got with each other in these years, Charumati's relation with everyone was never affected.
"I know didi. We all dreamt so much about her wedding but still cannot digest the fact yet that the day is finally arriving." Said Jambavati.
"What about us? We almost just met her and look, she is already getting married." Complained Lakshmanaa while the other sister-in-laws of Charumati simply agreed. Though most of them have literally seen her grow up, they still thought that the time just flew by.
Rukmini simply stood beside Charumati and admired her. "Maa?" Charumati called out, seeing her mother lost somewhere through the mirror.
"I knew this day would come but I don't think I am prepared yet, to let you go away. I guess I'll have to tell your Pitashree to postpone this marriage..." Said Rukmini making Charumati and others chuckle through tears.
After some time, Charumati was finally ready after everyone did something or the other to caste off the evil eyes. She stepped out of the dorm and found all her brothers and her father standing right there. Everyone smiled looking at her while some of them even had tears in there eyes.
"Pitashree!" Charumati exclaimed before walking towards him and being engulfed in a big, tight hug.
After being hugged by each of her brothers, Charumati was guided to the palace hall, where the rings were to be exchanged.
And so, the functions began.
