Author's POV:
On the third day of Son's suspension, he found himself walking around the college campus, looking for any sign of Pin. But unfortunately, Son couldn't find Pin anywhere. It seemed as if he had disappeared into thin air. Son couldn't help but feel a pang of worry deep within his chest. After gathering information, Son learned that Pin had decided to stay in his dorm room for the whole day.
//Inside Pin's Dorm Room//
Pin was just sitting on the edge of his bed, lost in his thoughts and emotions. In his hands, he held a crumpled photograph, a keepsake from last month's college dance. The photo captured a moment of pure happiness, with Son's warm smile shining through. Pin's heart warmed as he remembered how Son had held him close for the picture.
But the memory of Son's eyes from yesterday was different from the happiness in the photograph. Pin saw the cold anger in Son's gaze causing him shivers ran down his spine. How could someone who had once cared for him look at him with such resentment now? Pin felt overwhelmed by conflicting emotions of love and disappointment.
As Pin touched the edges of the photograph, tears filled his eyes. He wondered if there was any chance for him to repair their broken friendship. Was there a small hope that he could fix things, or had his own decision pushed them too far apart? Pin felt unsure and longed for answers that seemed hard to find.
"Hey," a quiet voice called from outside his window, interrupting his deep thoughts. Startled, Pin quickly hid the photograph, burying beneath his pillow. He looked up to see Son standing hesitantly outside, with his hands deep in his pockets.
"Son?" he whispered, wiping away the tears in his eyes. With a mix of surprise and curiosity, he opened the window. "What are you doing here?"
"I, um, I wanted to talk," Son admitted, looking at him with vulnerability that touched his heart even more.
"Alright," he replied, taking a deep breath to calm himself. "Wait a minute, I'll open the door."He got off the bed and headed to the door. With a gentle gesture, he invited Son inside and showed him to a nearby chair. Then he sat on the bed, creating some space between them.
"Listen, Pin... I know you think you did the right thing," Son started, his voice filled with a mix of nervousness and determination. He paused, taking a deep breath to gather his thoughts. "But you have no idea how much trouble you unintentionally caused me."
"Trouble?" Pin's voice trembled, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Son, you got into a fight! You could have seriously hurt someone! Or worse, you could have been injured because of him."
"Maybe," he admitted, sounding a little resigned, as he absentmindedly rubbed the back of his neck. "But you see, I found myself in a position where I had no other choice but to defend myself and, more importantly, my cousin friend, Tin. That stupid Anan had taken it upon himself to spread lies about me, and to make matters worse, he had harmed Tin just to enrage me even more. How could I, in good conscience, just stand by and let him get away with it, Pin?"
Pin, looking concerned, replied, "You could have chosen to leave that place together with Tin. After all, Anan had already hurt him badly. Anan is really not a someone to get involved in any way with him. Now, tell me honestly, is it truly worth risking your academic standing and facing suspension over this?"
"Who are you to decide what's worth it and what's not?" He shot back, his anger flaring up once more. "You had no right to secretly interfere, Pin."
Admitting his mistake, Pin responded, gripping the bedsheet tightly for support, "Maybe you're right that I went too far. But I couldn't stand by and watch you throw away your future, Son."
"Throw my future away?" he scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. The corners of his mouth curled into a wry smile, as if he found the idea completely absurd. "How overly dramatic can you get?" His voice was dripping with sarcasm, as if he couldn't grasp the seriousness of the accusation.
"Is it really that dramatic when it's true?" he countered, his voice growing stronger with each word. His eyes narrowed, showing a glimmer of determination. "You're so much smarter than this, Son. You have so much potential," he paused, his voice carrying a mix of frustration and concern, "but you keep making these reckless decisions!" The words hung in the air, filled with disappointment.
"Maybe I don't want to be the perfect student you believe I should be!" he shouted, frustration etched across his face like deep furrows. His voice cracked with intense emotion, as if he had been suppressing these feelings for far too long.
"Then what do you want, Son?" he asked, tears streaming down his cheeks as he stared at him, desperate for an answer. His voice trembled with a mix of fear and love, as if he feared losing Son to uncertainty. "Because I can't help you if I don't understand what you want." His words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of love.
"Maybe I don't even know what I want," he admitted softly, his eyes darting away from his gaze. His voice was barely audible, as if he was afraid to express his own confusion. "All I know is that I didn't expect you, out of everyone, to turn against me." His words held a touch of sadness, as if he had been let down by the one person that he thought would always support him.
"Son, I never wanted to hurt you," he whispered, his heart breaking at the pain in Son's eyes. His voice was barely heard, as if he was afraid that speaking too loudly would damage their fragile bond. "I just... I care about you too much to let you self-destruct." His words carried the weight of love and concern.
He let out a big sigh, and his tired eyes showed that he was feeling the weight of the situation. In frustration, he ran his hand through his messy hair, as if trying to find clarity in the middle of the chaos. When he looked at Pin, he couldn't help but feel desperate. "What should I do, Pin? How can we fix this mess?"
Pin, always calm and composed, answered in a quiet voice, "I don't have all the answers, Son. But maybe we can start by understanding each other better."
He slowly agreed, nodding thoughtfully. "Yes, you're right. Let's start there."
As they talked, Pin felt a small spark of hope rise within him. It was fragile, but it held the promise of a better future. They both knew that fixing the damage wouldn't be easy. They would need to invest time, be patient, and make a genuine effort to understand each other's perspectives. Despite the challenges ahead, there was still a chance. Maybe, just maybe, they could rebuild what had been broken.
