14 | The Truth

It's been 2 months since Rajan joined his new office. Today we are in the marriage hall, and I am busy here doing the work for my sister in law's marriage. 

My inlaws are so sweet, they make me do all the important work and give more importance for me. All this feeling of considering an important one , I have never experienced in life. 

His relatives too seemed to be more welcoming and considered me as one among them. 

Most of the marriages or functions that I attend, I had refrained myself from coming in front of people or performing anything important. 

At a point of time, I stopped attending functions. Whereas now, after marrying Rajan, my life has changed a lot.

Rajan has played very important role in making me come out of my inferior complex. 

I am obliged to him. 

After all the rituals are over, Sunita gracefully held the nuptial chain tied by Satheesh. I could see their faces glowing in happiness.

I cannot lie that I did not had a slight disappointment that my Marriage did not happen in grand manner like this. It was very simple in register office. 

But I brushed off those thoughts. Irrespective of the type of marriage, I have got a good family and good husband.

Soon the guests darted to the dining area, as the Muhurtham is over. I decided to go to the room, to check up on any impending activities that I can help my inlaws with.

Suddenly Rajan caught hold of my hand. 

 I looked at him with my brows furred. He suddenly took a gold chain for my thali(mangalsutra) and placed it in my palm.

Sensing my shock look, he spoke " my first gift for you. I know we did not have proper engagement or marriage. so I thought of gifting this to you. Do you like it?"

I am actually very surprised to respond to him.

" I really love you Ramya.. you are the best thing that happened in my life" he spoke heartfelt.

I am falling in love with the man in front of me again and again. With no nonsense talks, by his simple gestures he is making me fall deeply in love with him everytime. 

The innocent yet silly things he do to made me come out of my inferior complex ,I loved them all.

Just then I heard someone call me. A familar voice. I turned to see my parents standing.

"Ramya.. could you do me a favour. For my sake" requested Rajan.

"anything for you"

"Talk with your parents"

The moment he said, my smiling face carried a frown.

" Rajan. please.. lets not talk about them. In,fact I don't even want to meet them.

You are the one who invited them for this marriage you go talk but I will not."

I moved from that place.

Its high time that she knows the truth to clear all her incorrect opinion about her parents, I thought.

I caught hold of her hand and gave an apologetic look at her parents.

Turning to her I spoke.

"Do you think your parents just like that married you off to me and not bother about you at all?"

Ramya stood with a bewildered face. I continued.

"Before we met you at your house, your brother had done some enquiry about me in my neighborhood.

He happened to ask few ladies in the nearby vegetable market as well. His bad luck, not knowing that it is my mom, he enquired about me to her as well. 

My mom clearly understood that he must be your brother,  as I had already told her about our marriage meet the next day.  She feigned not knowing me, and directed him to some other person. 

Later, we all met you in our house and then got married and so on. The jewels that I asked you, your parents are not aware of it.

Upon knowing my state with Sunita's dowry, they instantly offered me more money to settle it.

But I denied it. It was the day, when my bike tyre got punctured and all the unlucky incidents as per your eyes happened. 

But to me it was the luckiest and good day in my life. I  got fired from the job which was really toxic for me. If they have not fired me that day, I would not have got a good job with high salary .

Not only that, your brother belong to the same college where Satheesh works as Professor.

The same day when all this happened, your brother had mocked Satheesh for getting bribe to marry.

Upon coming to know that, Satheesh lashed out at his Parents for doing all this at the back of him.

I dialed Satheesh parents to convince them. Upon talking with them, I came to know that your parents had already spoken on behalf of me and tried to convince Satheesh parents for the dowry. 

Your parents insisted to pay the dowry amount along with some jewels. They also told about the sole reason for my marriage as well.

Finally, Satheesh parents understood my state and decided to give up on the dowry matter. 

I immediately dialed your father to thank him. They have neatly settled the terms with Sunita's in law in a smooth manner. 

That is when your Father informed me about your birthday . I invited them to our house. But they denied coming as your are not happy with meeting them after our  marriage.

Earlier, they called me many times inviting for "maruveedu". They were kind of heartbroken knowing that you think they hate you.

They tried calling you many times to speak with you, but you never picked their call.

Once you picked the call and shouted at them for warding you off from their house. 

Trust me Ramya, your parents are not that cruel as you think. It is your inferiroity complex and unnecessary thoughts that made you think otherwise about your parents. 

And you know what.. your parents met with astrologer because they cannot see you become sad thinking about the unlucky things happening.

That is when they were told to get you married soon, so that you will not face any issues like before. Only after your marriage, your life would be good. 

Did I mention your over protective young bro?? He warned me that, he will bring his friends and punch me on my face ,if I don't look after you well.

He threatened to break my teeth and beat me to pulp if he ever saw you cry."

Ramya gave a surprised look hearing about the warnings her brother gave.

"And  I can assure you that your life is very good after marrying an understanding, caring , lovable and..."

I dragged a little and saw her through my corner eyes. She was looking at me with cute face..

" and???" She asked expecting me to add more.

"very, very innocent  husband like me" I completed. 

Ramya gave a cute glare at me at the last sentence.

"actually you should say those dialogues, but you are not saying it, so...." I trailed off.

Ramya bursted in to laugh and so do I. I felt happy seeing her laugh.

"Ramya, will you talk with your parents? for me please?" 

"I will. Since you said" Ramya replied.

Though she said ok she was hesitant.  I kind of literally dragged her to her parents and moved away to give them private space.
