A buzz vibrates against the rock, catching the attention of the young woman.

She shifts her gaze to her bottom left, eyeing the device as she pulls another hit from her joint, the cloud of smoke blowing out of her mouth, disappearing into the air. She grabs the phone, facing the screen as she uses her finger to swipe, opening the notification.

Sara Biggs: hey! you should come over to dev's :)

Y/n subconsciously shook her head, quickly wrapping her lips around the paper, the joint hanging from her mouth as she closes the eye closest to the trail of smoke that passes. Between the experience she had at the party, and yesterday's incident with the girl, she's exasperated with society as a whole, rather isolating herself from the inconvenience. Individually hanging out with the rest of the group couldn't hurt, though she knew that Sara wouldn't be alone.

Y/n: no thanks. i have things to do today :/

Setting her phone on her lap, she balances the joint between her index and middle finger, inhaling before pulling it from her mouth, blowing another cloud of smoke as she hears another buzz come from her device.

Sara Biggs: i really want to hang out with you today plz?? :(

The girl sighed, sending another "no," unapologetically. Protecting her peace is something very sacred to her, today is not the day. Standing her ground, she eyes the chat as she reads, 'seen.' Before she could press the power button and set her phone down, she received another notification, only this time it popped up on the top of her screen.

Carter Lyles: yo, you wanna smoke?

Catching her off guard, her eyebrows furrow as she expected Carter to be busy hanging with his crew. One eyebrow raises as she eyes the screen, contemplating whether she should lie as she did with Sara or have a quick smoke session. Shrugging, figuring that there couldn't be any harm with a quick sesh, especially with it being just Carter.

Y/n: where do you want to meet?

Not even a second later, three bubbles appeared at the bottom left of the chat, indicating that he is already typing a response. She stays on the screen considering his speedy answer.

C: i'll pick you up. send me your addy

Y/n complied, sending her address. She began packing her things, shoving all of her equipment in her bag. She rushed up the hills and darted to her car, realizing she should've told him to pull up. Rolling her eyes at her thoughtlessness, she opens her car door, throwing her bag in before climbing into the driver's seat. She shoves her key into the ignition, a rumbling beginning. She pulls the gearshift stick in reverse and drives out of her spot, twisting her body to face the back windshield.

Not far from her apartment complex, she pulls into the parking lot, just in time before seeing his car pull up next to hers. She hops out of the car with her bag, locking her car and throwing the keys in her bag. She walks to his passenger door, opening it and climbing in.

They greet each other as she throws her bag on the back floorboard, turning back in her seat to situate herself. Her hands on her lap, she gazes out of the window as he drives away from the parking lot.

             "So, where are we going?"

             "To Devon's."

Her eyes widening, she questions if she's been tricked. Bamboozled, even.

"I told Sara I wasn't going to hang out today."

Silence meeting her for a moment, he turns slightly to glance at her with a side eye.

            "Oh. She'll forgive you."

His response indicates that he didn't know of the invitation offered by Sara. She frees her thoughts of suspicion and relaxes in the seat. She figures that he was already on the way and had thought to invite her along, after all, he never said a destination. Something she should've asked about ahead of time.

Y/n eyes the passing traffic, anxious of Sara's reaction and the possibility of dealing with Devon's attitude. Damn her for being a stoner.
