I HAD TROUBLE FALLING ASLEEP.
Coach Hedge spent the first hour after curfew doing his nightly duty, walking up and down the passageway yelling, "Lights out! Settle down! Try to sneak out, and I'll smack you back to Long Island!"
He banged his baseball bat against a cabin door whenever he heard a noise, shouting at everyone to go to sleep, which made it impossible for anyone to go to sleep. I figured this was the most fun the satyr had had since he'd pretended to be a gym teacher at the Wilderness School.
I stared at the bronze beams on the ceiling. My cabin was pretty cozy. Leo had programmed our quarters to adjust automatically to the occupant's preferred temperature, so it was never too cold or too hot. The mattress and the pillows were stuffed with pegasus down, so they were über-comfortable. A bronze lantern hung from the ceiling, glowing at whatever brightness I wished. The lantern's sides were perforated with pinholes, so at night glimmering constellations drifted across my walls.
I groaned and got up. I was wearing just my boxers. I put a shirt on and opened my door. I popped my head out the room checking to see if anyone was in the hallway.
When it was clear I walked out and softly closed the door. I walked a couple doors down and stopped at one. Leo's room.
I stood there debating on opening it or knocking. Fuck it. I opened the door and shut it behind me. The room was lit by the lamp that was slowly fading.
I tripped on his shoe and quickly grabbed him desk steadily myself.
Leo sat up. His eyes were wide and his hair was on fire.
"Hi," I said trying to act natural.
He smiled, the fire on his hair fading. "Hi," he looked at my feet. The shoe was under my foot. "You alright?"
"Superb," I muttered kicking the shoe out of the way.
"Need something?"
I growled. "You don't know how much I need you right now."
Leo's eyes widen and moved aside so there would be space for me.
I took my shirt off and jumped on his bed. I wrapped my arms around him moving him close to me. His warmth filled me.
I snort. I use to hate the heat and now I am in love with someone who is too cute for his own good and controls fire.
"What's funny?" Leo whispered tangling our legs together.
I kissed his neck. "Nothing."
He hummed and tilted his head to the side giving me more space to work with.
"Can I—" he got cut off moaning when I suck hard on his collar bone. "Ask you a question?"
"Shoot, baby," I gripped his shirt telling him to take it off. He took it off and laid back down.
I continue kissing his neck. He kept quiet for a moment. "Tell me your question, love."
"I—ohh—why are you not mad at me?"
I paused for a moment. "Why would I be mad?"
"Because of what happened."
I sat up looking at him. By the lit from of the fading light I wasn't able to see much of his features but I knew that he was frowning. "Leo, that wasn't you. Why would I be mad at something you did not do?"
"I—its just that—you and Percy are friends and he doesn't seem like he likes me, so I just thought..." Leo trailed off not finishing but he didn't have to.
"You thought that just because I am friends with Percy I would immediately side with him. Leo—" I sat him up. "I know you better than he knows you. Even when we were talking about it, Annabeth sided with you knowing you couldn't have done something like that." I kissed his forehead. "I don't care what Percy thinks, he doesn't know you. Sure right now he is not your biggest fan, but who care, you don't know him either."
Leo's lip twitch. "I'm sorry, I just thought—"
I kissed him. "Stop thinking."
"Okay."I woke up before Leo. I looked around the room. Clothes were everywhere, the bed sheets were a mess. I sat up slowly wrapping my arms off of Leo, who was still sound asleep.
I put on my boxer and shirt kissing Leo's forehead and walking out the room. I hate leaving Leo like this, but I know coach hedge and he won't be happy when he finds out. I walked into my room grabbing clothes so I can shower.
After showering, I put my boxers on after drying myself and the door opened. Percy walked in with his clothes in one hand and a towel in the other. His eyes were half open.
"Morning," I said putting on my jeans.
"Morning," Percy mumbled walking like a zombie to the showers.
Leo built more than one shower just in case we needed it. I glanced at the mirror seeing Percy taking his clothes off.
"Couldn't you wait until I walked out."
He shrugged. "Its not like you having seen me naked before."
I raised my eyebrows. "Yeah, and I wish I keep it only happening once in my life."
"Just look away."
"Smart mouth," I said lowering my voice as Percy turned the water on.
"So, Leo and you," Percy started.
"What about it?" I asked leaning against the sink crossing my arms.
"Nothing, just wondering. I mean its not surprising you chose someone like him."
"You already told me that. What do you mean anyways?"
I heard in shuffling around in the shower. "Just saying that you needed someone like Leo, someone who can handle you and you handle him. He also loves making people smile and it's something that is hard for you if you don't force it."
I rolled him eyes. "Okay, so what?"
"Does he know?"
I felt myself tense up. "Know about what?"
"Don't act dumb, Alister. You trust him don't you, why does he not know?"
"It's more complicated than that," I mumbled.
"How? Alister, your life can be on the line here. We have to figure out what to do and I doubt we can do it on our own."
"We can talk about it later, right now we need to find a safe place so no one but us can know."
"Tell me one safe place right now."
I couldn't say any.
"The faster we get this over with, the better."
"Percy, I'm not ready to tell them the—"
The door opened. I immediately went back to looking at myself in the mirror and drying my wet hair.
Jason walked in and he smiled at me. "Morning."
"Morning," I said looking over at him.
He pointed at the stall that Percy was in. "Who," he whispered softly as he walked by me.
"Percy," I whispered back.
He nods putting his stuff in a place to have everything organized.
I sigh. "I better get going."
"See you."
I hummed.
