Y/N L/N walked down the busy New York street. He paid for his food at the local deli and walked out with his sandwich. The young teen proceeded to look around the busy city surrounding him. He loved New York. From the people to the food to the community. Everything seemed so unique and every corner or alley appeared to beam with personality.

Y/N heard a swooshing sound and looked up. He saw Spider-Man swinging from the buildings above him. Y/N smiled upon seeing the man in red tights. That was another thing he loved about New York. The city seemed to have its own protector. Sure there were the Avengers, but Spider-Man seemed to really relate to the people. Y/N admired the hero's actions as well as his kindness, always taking a moment to interact with the citizens of the city.

Y/N didn't keep looking for too long. He picked up the pace and continued walking down the street corner. He was late to meet his grandfather. The two had a game of checkers they needed to finish up.

Y/N continued walking until he came to a nice apartment complex. He rang the buzzer to his grandfather's apartment room number. He heard the old man's voice come through the speaker.

Hugh: Hello? Who is it?

Y/N: It's me, Grandpa Hugh.

Hugh: Oh, Y/N. Get in here before I throw my cane down at you from the window.

Y/N chuckled at his grandfather's antics and walked inside. He walked up the stairs and down the hall to the room number. He knocked on the door and was met by his grandfather's cheery face. The old man had a wide smile that shined through his silver beard. A wrinkled face depicted, not age, but years of laughs of enjoyment in life. However, there was something about his eyes that depicted a tired state of exhaustion as well.

Hugh: About time you got here. I need help with a new air horn. It scares the mailman like you wouldn't believe. He actually thinks this place is haunted by an old steamboat captain.

Hugh laughed at his own joke and Y/N joined him. He loved hearing about his grandpa's pranks and gags. He also loved the man's sarcasm and sense of humor. He guessed it was where he got his own humor.

The two had been having an intense checkers tournament over the past month. Every Saturday, they would meet up to go another round. Y/N initially proposed a chess game, but Hugh said he never learned how to play. They both had agreed upon a prize at the end of the tournament, although this prize seemed to change with every game. One week it was a coupon, another it was a vintage record, and yet another it was a roll of toilet paper.

The two were close to finishing up their latest round. Y/N had more chips than his grandpa, yet Hugh was still dominating him. The game ended when Hugh jumped over three of Y/N's chips in a row.
