Katsuki was the first to come to his senses.
His back hurt. His head was spinning and he felt a type of weakness. A weakness he couldn't describe. He slowly sat up from his previous uncomfortable position. The boy looked around. Trees towered high above his head. the leaves under him crunched at his every movement. He combed through his hair as he took in his surroundings. "Fucking hell.." he whispered under his breath. Far ahead, he spotted another body. Izuku, buried under a pile of leaves, hadn't moved yet. Katsuki stumbled to his feet to unbury him. Why had he come?
"Hey, Deku." he shouted. No response. He shook the green boy's body to no avail. Unafraid to use violence, he cranked his hand back and slapped him across the face. Now that was enough to wake him. Izuku winced at the pain, holding his cheek. His eyes finally opened, seeing Katsuki sitting over him. Then the memories flowed in. Izuku sat up quickly, hopping to his feet. "Where are we??" The young boy questioned. They had been sucked through a portal. "Well, if you used your shitty eyes, we're in a fucking forest."
A forest. No idea how far they were from home. "We...We need to get back!" He spoke. "I'll float to the top and try to see where we are." He stepped to the side to get space to activate his power. And....nothing. That was out of the ordinary. "I...what." Katsuki pushed him from behind. "Dammit. If you can't do it I'll do it." The blonde boy attempts his quirk as well to reach the same outcome. The two boys stare at each other. Something was wrong. "It's his quirk" Deku spoke. "It's a portal...That takes your quirk as you go through?" Katsuki's anger began to overflow. "The fuck type of quirk is that? How about he fight me if he's so special?" Izuku gathered himself and analyzed their situation. "We have to walk."
Katsuki, grasping the situation himself, agreed. They had to walk their way out of the forest. They were heroes after all. If they couldn't make their way out of this, can they really call themselves heroes? "Fuck. Just wanted to see my mom, dammit." Katsuki kicked the pebbles in his way and followed Izuku. They had no idea how long the road was up ahead, and had no way of telling. They silently walked, with the only sound coming from the twigs and leaves they crushed beneath them. Izuku loved the quiet. The quiet where nobody could hurt him. The quiet where he felt safe. It had been a while since his life was filled with the quiet. But this is a forest. Who knows the dangers in the forest? Plus, they were quirkless. Izuku felt the empty hole in his stomach. He was quirkless again. It was like all the training he did to master his abilities went to waste in that exact moment. He was useless again. He was just Deku again.
Katsuki had to ruin the quiet. "Oi, do you know where you're going?" The green boy crunched his face in aggravation. "No Kacchan. I don't. And neither do you." They continued walking again in silence. They continued in silence for many more hours.
...
It was starting to get dark out. The forest is unpredictable. It was filled with wild animals, poisonous plants, and more dangers that they may have not heard before. They were heroes, not survivalists. The two boys had slowed down drastically since they had began; their legs getting heavier and heavier with each step they took. "We...We should stop." Izuku abruptly spoke. Katsuki, without protest, stopped and leaned onto a tree for support. They were exhausted, but refused to show their weakness to each other. Katsuki's stomach grumbled. "I'm hungry as hell." So was Izuku. But how would they get food? Where would they get food? "I'll look for something. You do too." Izuku went off in one way in search of something for their empty stomachs. Katsuki didn't have the energy to fight him on it. He went the opposite way to find food. Anything to replenish their energy.
The forest wasn't full of any food that they were used too. If only there was an apple tree maybe. But who would find one of those randomly in a forest? Izuku pushed past the bushes that covered his path, until he felt a loud crunch under him. He lifted his foot to see he had stepped on an acorn. Izuku knew at the very least you could eat acorns. It wasn't the dinner he had in mind, but it would have to suffice. He collected as many acorns as he could fit on his small body. He filled both of his pockets full of acorns and turned back to where they had began. Upon arrival, he noticed that Katsuki hadn't returned.
The boy didn't know whether he should stay put, or go in search of Katsuki. Before he had the time to make a decision, Katsuki appeared from the bushes. "I got nothing." he snarked. Deku sighed at Katsuki's unusefulness and poured the acorns on the ground. "We can eat these." Katsuki looked at the acorns, then back at Izuku. "I'm not eating that shit." he growled. Izuku didn't look at Katsuki. He sat down around the acorns he had laid. "We're in a forest. Not a restaurant. Maybe think about this next time you want to get attacked by a villain." He popped one of the acorns into his mouth. "I don't give a fuck. Ill starve for fucks sake. I'm not eating that." Katsuki turned his back on the green boy and began to clear the cluttered dirt floor of the leaves and sticks. He laid his body down and seemed to be drifting to sleep. Izuku continued to eat his acorns with a frown spread across his face. He's the reason their caught in this situation, yet he's acting like a brat about it. Who the hell does that?
Finishing his dinner, Izuku copied Katsuki at clearing the floor and resting his body. In the midst of his relaxation, he couldn't help but relapse on the entire day. He had failed again. He failed to help his friend. If he had come sooner, maybe they'd both still be in UA. Is anybody looking for them? Had they noticed their disappearance? Tears began to fall across his face. Then sobs. He cried for what felt like a never ending loop. He failed. And this failure put Kacchan, the boy he grew up with, in danger. His cries rocked him to sleep.
...
Katsuki awoke to the cold of the night. The leaves swayed, dancing with the wind. He was hungry. Really hungry. But he refused to admit that the damn Deku was right. He lifted himself to search for another type of food. Anything that would quiet his stomach that demanded to be satisfied. Maybe he'd find a river with fish to eat. Or maybe a bush full of berries. He prompted himself to his feet so begin his search. He had to stay close to Izuku however. It would mean real trouble if they were to be separated. Katsuki scavenges the surrounding area, looking for anything to feast on. The shoes on his feet getting more and more torn up as he traveled. Maybe this wouldn't be so easy.
His search was abrupted interrupted by a growl. A deep growl, as through to intimidate. The boy, now moving quietly, was now searching for the source of this sound. This growl got louder and louder. Too loud. He looked ahead. many feet ahead of him, he realized he was now encountered with an animal. A large animal. A bear. Usually, this would be easy. But he was without his quirk. He only thought of one option: run. He ran quickly to wake Izuku, who was still sound asleep at the camp site they had set up.
"SHIT! DEKU GET UP!" He yelled in a panic. Izuku remained still. He was a deep sleeper all right. Katsuki grabbed Izuku's harm, attempting to force him to his feet. The sudden burn of Izuku's skin caused Katsuki to react by letting him go. His body fell back to the ground with a thud. The blonde boy kneeled in front of the green haired boy. He touched his body once more. He was burning. Badly. "Fuck. Deku get up." He repeated this sentence to no avail. Izuku was breathing hard, his breathing wasn't controlled correctly. He eyes squeezed shut. "Those fucking acorns." Katsuki sat beside the boy, no longer knowing what to do. He wasn't getting up any time soon. He didn't know what to do in this situation. The large grizzly bear, loudly making his was towards them, and the blond boy stayed still. His breathing quickened. He was powerless. He hadn't felt this powerless before. "SHIT."
"C'mon Deku...Work with me here." He lifted the limp boy and threw him on his back; their skin rubbing against each other. It sizzled against Katsuki's body. He had to evacuate, and quick. He began to run. As fast as he could. Compared to how small Deku was, his body was built. He was heavy. It didn't help the fact that he was also completely limp, making it harder to keep him on his back.
The bear hadn't spotted them yet, and he wasn't planning on it to happen. They needed to get out of danger first. That was the only goal here. Then he needed to find a way to make sure Izuku didn't literally die on him. Izuku, troubled by the bumpy ride he found himself on, slipped between consciousness. Izuku held on tightly to the blond boy.
They ran for 30 minutes straight. The boy had gotten tired. He still hadn't eaten, and the task of carrying this heavy burden away from danger had weighed down on him. He falls to the ground, Izuku rolling off his back laying beside him. "Shit...Deku. Fuck. Come on. Get up." Katsuki whispered. He tried his best to keep his eyes open. He had to first make sure Deku was alive, still breathing.
Izuku's eyes slightly opened to the calling. He saw Kacchan, covered in dirt and mud from the trip. He gave a weak smile. "Sorry" he muttered, before drifting back to sleep. This gave peace to Katsuki's mind. Deku was okay. He was breathing. He was alive. His tense body rested, as he drifted off to a deep sleep.
Tomorrow would come.
