The sun ran across the sky, shining in the face of Katsuki.
The boy slowly sits up from his sleep, immediately turning to see Izuku beside him. He gives a sigh of relief before placing his head on his forehead. Still too warm he thought. But it had gone down, giving Katsuki the peace of mind he needed. Izuku was still sound asleep, his breathing more steady.
This wasn't the time to be standing around. He had to move somehow, but it would be difficult to travel with Deku in the current state he was in. But he was a hero after all. He has to find a way out of it.
The now weak hero stands to his feet, his muscles aching every inch of the way. He was starving at this point. What a spoiled boy he was, not being able to last a day without food. Food was always on the table after all.
He had to find food. SAFE food. Meat. Katsuki was craving meat. He works his way around the surrounding forest, keeping an eye on Izuku's body. He was never much of an innovator, but he had to become one. He located thick branches and sharpened them finely on a large stone nearby. It wasn't easy nor quick, but what the hell, right? 4...then 5....6 sticks were sharpened. "Shitty forest trying to fuck with me." Katsuki growled under his breath. "Like to see you fucking try."
Using the makeshift arrows, it was time to hunt. Anything would suffice his stomach. But he was anchored by the fallen boy, still unconscious due to his own stupidity. Fuck. He could manage on his own for a bit, right? He's a hero. He'd survive. Katsuki reassured himself with these thoughts as he walked further and further from Izuku, eventually out of his sight.
Katsuki wasn't an idiot. He left a clear and visible trail of sticks behind him, allowing him to make his way back if need be. He traveled within the forest for something, anything that would cross his path. The blond boy set behind a bush, and waited. Maybe he had watched too many wildlife documentaries. This was how lions hunted. Stayed in hiding, then pounce when the time was right. And that time didn't leave him waiting either. A deer made its way into Katsuki's view. Trotting without worry, yet alert to its surroundings. It stood a mere 10 feet in front of the boy, feasting on the grass and herbs it had found for its lunch. Katsuki waited patiently. The deer continued eating, rarely stopping in its meal. It made Katsuki a little jealous in a way.
The deer stood up straight, and turned its head to the surrounding forest. It was about to leave. Now. Katsuki jumped from the bushes and grabbed the deer. It thrashed around, struggling against its surprise predator. But Katsuki stayed firm. Using one of his many sharpened sticks, he impaled the deer quickly in its neck, causing the deer's movement to settle. It fell, bleeding onto the forest floor, audibly gasping for the little air left. Katsuki didn't wish to watch this part.
When the deer was cold and dead, he carried the slightly big body over his shoulder. It was heavy and caused his already aching body to hurt even more, but he pushed through. Following the path he had created, he headed back to their supposed camp.
It didn't take long to reach the end of the trail. It was the same place where he had come from. He recognized the trees, the bushes, and even the bare spot where he laid at night. But where Izuku slept, the ground he laid on, was currently bare as well. Izuku was gone. Fucking gone. Shit. He must have been attacked. Who the fuck would leave a poisoned boy alone in the forest? Katsuki dropped his prize and began breathing frantically. "FUCK. DEKU? DEKU! SHIT!" His panicked screaming was interrupted by a voice. "Kacchan?"
Izuku stood behind a nearby tree. He in fact, had not gone. They stood staring at each other. "Nice of you to bring some food." Katsuki had now calmed his breath. "Don't pull that shit. You know what the fuck you were doing"
"Taking a piss? Well sorry." Izuku comes from behind the tree and sits beside corpse. "Damn. You didn't have to kill it like that you know. There are more humane ways to do this type of stuff." Katsuki rolled his eyes at his comment. "How are you feeling?"
Izuku was surprised at the question. Katsuki wasn't the one to ask how others feel. "I'm much better! Why do you ask?" Katsuki walked around the nearby forest, collecting wood to create a fire. "The Truth, Deku." He growled. "That is the truth." Izuku mumbled under his breath. Just like perfect timing, Izuku jumps from his seat and makes his way behind the same tree he was found, and literally pukes up anything and everything he had left in his stomach. He coughed and gagged as his throat burned to the acidic liquids leaving his body. He finished as he started, and quietly returned to his seat; Katsuki watching him with a dumb look. "The truth, Deku." "I feel like I'm gonna puke all the time and I feel like my head and insides are splitting."..... "There you go." Katsuki teased.
The fire Katsuki created burned and crackled. The meat sizzled over the flames. Izuku laid, sulking in his current condition. Failure. Failure after failure after failure. He gets in the situation and the first thing he does is poison himself, even tried to poison Katsuki right along with him!
"Meat's done." Katsuki handed a large slab of deer in Deku's hand. The deer still sizzling, sounding as if it were still alive. He took a great bite from his meal. It was delicious. Izuku was famished. He spent his morning puking up the non-existent contents of his stomach, so he was utterly empty and starving. Katsuki ate just as Izuku, starving from having to pick up Izuku's slack for so long. Deku finished his meal shortly. "We need water." Katsuki spoke in between bites. "We may not feel it now, but we need water to fucking live." Izuku laid under a tree for shade. "How." He questioned. Katsuki finished his meal and threw the bone recklessly. "While I was strangling this fucking deer, I heard water moving. It was probably a river nearby. We should look for it if we're smart."
The boys collected themselves. Izuku tossed dirt onto the fire to put it out, while Katsuki chopped up the remaining uncooked meat. "How do you plan on carrying that." Izuku questioned. "We don't have any bags." Katsuki ignored the question. He pulled off his dirty hoodie he had been wearing, leaving him with just a t-shirt to protect him from the cold. He wrapped the meat within his hoodie and folded it tight with the sleeves. The hoodie dripped in the blood. Izuku gagged at the sight. "You gotta do what you gotta do" Katsuki chuckled at Izuku's face before throwing the makeshift bag over his shoulder. The trail of sticks showed the way Katsuki had come from. Izuku followed Katsuki without question.
...
The walk continued for a long grueling 3 hours. The sun still glaring at them from above, mocking them. The sound of the river continued to grow louder as they walked, giving them direction to which way to go. Izuku remained behind Katsuki. Kacchan seemed to know what he was doing, even though they have never been in this situation before. The river's sounds became louder and louder, almost deafening by how it continued to roar and crash. "We're here." Katsuki announced. Izuku lifted his head to see a great river. The waves crashed dangerously. No wonder they could hear it from so far away.
"Get some wood" Katsuki ordered. Izuku narrowed his eyes at the blond boy. "Get the goddamn wood" Katsuki demanded. "That's not how you fucking ask." Izuku growled. The boy took a deep breath. "Okay. PLEASE get the GODDAMN FUCKING WOOD DEKU!" Izuku gave a sarcastic smile and collected the wood nearby. He dropped it at Katsuki's feet before sitting beside him. "What do you want wood for?" He asked. "We're gonna put the water in them." Katsuki took the wood and got to work once more. He used the already sharpened sticks from before to hollow out the wood, creating what seemed to be like a wooden cup. He impaled a nearby tree to receive the sap from inside. Katsuki then collected the water from the river into the wooden cup, placed the sap onto the top of the wood, and put another slab of wood on top. The sap dried quickly, causing the water to be tightly sealed within the wood. "See?".
Izuku seemed astonished at Katsuki's handiwork. "Did somebody teach you that?" He asked. "Nah. I just had a random idea and hoped it work." Katsuki began working on the next container. Izuku followed. By the end, they had multiple wooden containers full of water from the river. Izuku copied Katsuki, taking off his hoodie and collecting the containers into it, folding the sleeves to carry them nicely. "Don't drink those." Katsuki warned. "You need to boil it first, to kill the bacteria. You'll damn near poison yourself again if you drink it." Izuku rolled his eyes to his comment. He tossed his hoodie full of water over his shoulder and began to walk. "Let's go." Katsuki jogged to catch up and walked beside Izuku.
"Kacchan?" Katsuki turned to face Izuku, whose head was to the ground. "Sorry about last night. I should've listened to you." Katsuki clicked his tongue and looked ahead. "Only natural that you fuck up." "I don't always fuck up! That was one time." Izuku muttered to himself. Katsuki hit Izuku on his back, causing the boy to nearly fall over. "Just don't hold me back next time." Izuku looked at Katsuki's face, a determined look. It gave him hope in a way. That was his friend, no matter what.
"I won't"
