"You should've told me yesterday" Lacey mutters as she stitched up her fathers head from his truck accident. John Dutton hisses as she accidentally dug harshly into his skin."I didn't want to bother you, you were working double." He says and Lacey rolls her eyes at her father.
"For the third day in a row, I'm not sure that's legal."
Lacey glances over her shoulder glaring at Jamie. He always found a way to butt himself into everyone's conversations.
"I'm fine, nothing coffee can't fix. You're done." Lacey says placing her stitching tools on the table before turning her attention to Jamie fully. He got back from court a lot faster than she thought he would have.
"Go rest, you have bags under your eyes." Jamie says gently resting a hand on her shoulder before walking over to their father. Lacey would normally fight with him about his over protectiveness, but all her siblings were the same way with her.
"I'm going to wait for Lee, I promised to help him with some horse stables but he has to show me which ones."
Lacey says her voice tired."Go to bed, your brother can handle it alone." John says and Lacey waves them off before going to her bedroom, she was honestly exhausted and a little nap would not kill her.
Lacey had a solid twenty minute nap before her body was shook awake. Lacey opens her eyes to see Lee staring at her with a sad smile. She groans and nods her head agreeing to whatever her brother needed help with.
"What is it now?" Lacey asks pulling on a flannel over her tank top. She quickly pulls her hair up into a messy bun not wanting to care about how she looked.
"Cows wandered off, figured you could learn something." Lee says and Lacey sighs. She was tired, she really didn't want to learn how to argue with people over cows. She wasn't going to work on the ranch, there's a reason why she went to college to become a nurse. But Lee was adamant on her learning ways of the ranch.
"You woke me up over cows?" She asks annoyed and Lee nods his head.
"Don't wake me up over cows again." Lacey says walking past Lee towards the truck.
Lee got in and started driving. Lacey was looking out of the car window yawning as she did, she wanted to go back to bed. She should've taken Kaceys offer to moving to the Rez with him and Monica, there she would be able to sleep.
"I'm sorry." Lee says and Lacey turns her head to look at him.
"I'm sorry I woke you up, and I know.. I know you want nothin to do with the ranch but you're a Dutton, you're always gonna have apart in this." Lee explains and Lacey nods her head knowing he was right. But she missed Kacey, he was the only sibling who didn't treat her like a child.
When they got to the scene Lee jumped out of the truck with his gun making Lacey follow him quickly, only she didn't have a gun like he did. Their dads helicopter landed and all the yelling stopped. Lacey let out a sigh when their dad looked at Lacey before telling Lee to take her home.
"Leave your sister out of it."
She heard her dad say, Lacey held back a smile and she walked back to the truck ready to go back to sleep.
The next the time Lacey woke up she grabbed her book and sat on the porch with a blanket on her legs as she sat of the rocking chair reading her book. A cup of coffee was beside her but the steam coming from the top shower her that it was to hot to drink. She could hear the horses from the stables and the breeze blowing the grass in the fields.
"Now what are you reading?"
A small smile appears on Lacey's face as she looks up to see Rip staring at her with a teasing smile on his face. Rip Wheeler was always special to Lacey, he was oddly protective of her and she had a school girl crush on him. They've had a close relationship for a while now. Rip often likes to tease her about her romance books that she was found reading while Lacey teases him about being a 'tough' cowboy.
