VALENTINA STOOD ENTIRELY STILL AS HER EYES GLARED INTO HER OPPONENT. she could feel the eyes of everyone watching them carefully. she wasn't sure if she liked being the first one to fight but she had no choice. there was no way she could defy the choice from the leader, and she wasn't going to argue with him either. right now all she needed to do was prove her strength and win this fight. that was all her focus was on. she couldn't let anyone see her as weak or someone who couldn't handle being dauntless.

molly was the name of the girl she would be going up against. the girl was taller and larger, appearing way stronger than her. this didn't seem to intimidate valentina as she knew the girl was on the slower side. valentina was smaller and slim though she was quick and more agile. she wasn't sure what to expect so she had to go with her gut and use her quickness to be smart with her moves. like eric told her moments ago, she was strong but not enough.

tighten your core and use your whole body.

"how long do we fight for?" molly asked eric, removing her eyes from valentina to look at the feared leader.

"'til one of you can't continue." he barked at her, his eyes glancing between both girls on the ring.

"or one of you concedes." four quickly chimed in as he stepped forward, catching eyes with his sister briefly who nearly scoffed. he'd be lying if he said he wasn't at all worried for her.

eric rolled his eyes at four before continuing, "according to the old rules. new rules, no one concedes." his stare was now sitting on valentina, trying to figure out what she was feeling or not. the gaze he had on her only intensified when he couldn't tell what she was feeling.

"you really want to lose 'em on their first fight?" four mumbled to the leader beside him who's gaze was still on the girl who he knew had the backbone to her.

"a brave man never surrenders." said eric who refused to look away.

four snickered turning back to look at the initiates, "lucky for you, those weren't the rules when we fought."

when valentina looked over to her two instructors, she watched as eric's eyes darkened and jaw clench from something her brother said. whatever he said must've struck something in the leader making him step closer to the ring. his fists were clenched and she wondered what it was between the two that made them passive aggressively rival against each other.
