Matt pulled into Nathaniel's driveway and got out of the car. I let Melody out of the car and walked with her to the door. Melody hid behind my leg as Katie opened the door.

"Hey, guys. How was your outing?" Katie asked, and I gestured to the child beside me. Her eyes widened in shock as she knelt down to say hello to the little girl.

"Hi there, what's your name?" Katie asked gently, and Melody picked at my jeans and quietly said 'Melody.'

"That's a pretty name, Melody. Do you want something to eat? I have fruit snacks," Katie smiled and held her hand out to Melody, and she looked up at me. I brushed her hair out of her face and lightly nudged her forward. Melody took Katie's hand and walked inside with her to the kitchen. I shut the door behind me once I stepped inside and took off my shoes.

Alexa and Nathaniel were cuddling on the couch flipping through TV channels when they stopped on A Cinderella Story as I walked into the kitchen. I wasn't paying attention to the movie until I heard the line that struck a chord in my heart.

"... Because waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought. Useless and disappointing." I set my cup of water down and stared at the dishes in the sink as I let that line sink in. They flipped a few more channels and stopped on Bruce Almighty, "I still love him. But I don't want to love him anymore. I don't want to hurt anymore. Please."

They flipped a few more channels, this time it was 17 Again, "But I guess if I love you, I should let you move on," A few more channel flips, Love Rosie, "You deserve someone who loves you with every beat of his heart."

A few more clicks and they stopped on The Vow, "I see the way you look at him. I know because you used to look at me that way."

I tightly gripped onto the edges of the sink as one of my tears dropped into a glass below. I felt a hand on my back, and it started to draw the alphabet in cursive. I turned around and wrapped my arms around Matt's torso. He wrapped his arms around me in return and rubbed my back as he rested his chin on my head.

"Do you want to go somewhere else? I can see they're upsetting you," I nodded as I pulled away from Matt. I grabbed my cup of water and started walking to Katie's room with Matt following behind. I flopped onto Katie's bed, and Matt lay beside me. He pulled out his phone and started playing a sad songs playlist.

I turned over and snuggled into Matt's side. His arm wrapped around me and we sat in silence as This Town by Niall Horan played softly in the background. If it was that obvious that they made me upset then how obvious was it when I liked Nathaniel?

Happier by Ed Sheeran started playing, and I snuggled closer to Matt.

"What made you so upset out there?" Matt asked, turning down the music.

"A combination of things," I sighed, "I have to figure out how to take care of Melody until we can talk to Nathaniel about the idea you had and then the combination of phrases that I heard as they were flipping through channels. I'm a mess right now."

"At least you're not a drugged mess," Matt chuckled.

"Yeah," I laughed, "It's all just a huge mess right now because I used to like Nathaniel and I care about him. I hate Alexa with a burning passion and seeing her with him just makes me furious because I know she's just going to hurt him."

"How long did you like him?"

"I gave up when I turned sixteen... I turned seventeen a month ago."

"A long time, wow. I can imagine how it must suck seeing the one you want is wanted by someone else. I dealt with that for a year, but I finally got her."

I looked up at Matt, and he smiled at me with a fond look in his eyes. It clicked when he went to kiss my forehead, but I moved, so he kissed my lips. The second our mouths connected it was like a grand finale after a firework show. We were in sync and at this moment nothing else mattered, only Matt and me.

When we pulled away, I snuggled my face in Matt's neck and placed a gentle kiss there. He wrapped his arms tighter around me, ignoring that his phone had started ringing.

"Are you going to answer that?" I asked giggling, still high from his kiss.

"Nah, whoever it is can wait," Matt laughed and kissed my head. A stupid grin found itself on my face as I closed my eyes, "I just want to enjoy this moment with you, but I have a question."

"I have an answer," I sassed.

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

"I guess I can make that work," I laughed and kissed Matt.
