One can only read for so long before that becomes boring, not to mention running out of books. Reading does not stop the deafening silence from nurturing anxiety and fear, social anxiety does not stop loneliness from creeping in, reading books does not distract from the distinctive lack of feeling from within the void.

Maybe that was why Solar had also brought Y/N a sudoku puzzle book. An activity to break up the monotony. However, she failed to provide them with a pen or pencil to actually finish the puzzles. After several failed attempts, they gave up on trying to do the sudoku in their head.

They looked at the other books, which they'd already read what felt like a hundred times. They had no idea how long it had been or how long it would be until they had a chance to get out of there. Would they ever be able to get out? They didn't know what Solar's plans with them were, other than bait. Would they just be discarded as soon as they were no longer useful? They just wanted to have their life back...

"Are you Y/N?" The unfamiliar, soft and monotone voice was mechanical, but comforting. It belonged to a creature not much taller than Y/N, who resembled the other gods that they'd met thus far, now falling alongside them. They wore a crop top and shorts, paired with boots, and their metal 'skin' - was it even skin? - was laden in light blue scars. "I really must be finding them, I do not have much time..."

"Who are you, and what do you want?" Y/N's voice was not aggressive, but tired. They just wanted to get out of here and go home, was that so much to ask for? The literal star-eyed entity didn't seem to take offense to it, thankfully.

"Lunar Eclipse, avatar of reincarnation and equilibrium. I am here to restore the equilibrium - such as to say, fix the problems my absence has caused. It starts with you - a mortal caught in the crossfire. You weren't supposed to die yet, so I'm going to take you straight to be reincarnated. Shall we?" They offered a gloved hand, a golden star on the back palm of the fabric.

"Hold on - I'm not dead. I didn't die. I got my arm burned off but I didn't die!" Y/N shook their head. They would know if they were dead, right? Though... they had met the God of Death in person... and they did have a very close near death experience... maybe their brain was in denial? No! No, they couldn't be dead.

"Mortal bodies cannot enter Solar's realm. You're just a soul here, and your body is long dead without you. It probably died only a few minutes after you got here. Maybe a few hours, but you've been here a lot longer than that, haven't you? Don't worry, I'll take your fears in this life away, and you get to have a new start."

"NO! No- I don't want to die! I don't want to be dead! I'm- I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO! TO LIVE FOR!" Y/N shouted in desperation. They were still so young. This had been far too much for them to handle - as if losing an arm wasn't bad enough, they had to lose their life too? They hadn't even managed to survive to half the average human lifespan. This wasn't fair!

"You are dead, though. No amount of wanting is going to change that." Lunar's voice remained eerily still in that calm monotone. They didn't seem to be bothered by Y/N's outburst - or, at least, they didn't act like it if they were.

"You said I'm not SUPPOSED to be dead! There has to be something that can be done to fix this!" Y/N cried in a panic. If they were dead, then how come they could still feel their heart racing in their chest, how come they could still feel the anxious pit in their stomach? That didn't seem like a very dead thing to do. "You're lying, you have to be lying!"

"Correct, you aren't supposed to be dead. We don't plan when you die, but no doubt that without godly interference, you'd most likely still be alive. But, you are not. You are here. The void is a subsection of the afterlife. You are very much dead. I told you what can be done to fix this. You will reincarnate into a new body. Start life over. It's for the better."

"I don't want to start over - I want to finish the life I have!"

"You did." Lunar took Y/N's hand, it was no longer a request. The two of them were relocated to an endless field of flowers, with a stone altar surrounded by spires not long in the distance. Tears were streaming down Y/N's face, but Lunar did not acknowledge it. "Now, please... I need to get to the others before things get worse. I recognize that you are upset, and you are not doing well, but that's... comforting people is not what I do. I'm not good at it. Please calm down."

"CALM DOWN!? YOU EXPECT ME TO CALM DOWN!?" Y/N exclaimed. They then noticed there was something new about the deity - eyes. There were floating eyes all around Lunar, some abstract, some normal, some with the optic nerve still attached, others that looked like a cartoon... many of them were staring directly at Y/N, some at Lunar, and others looked on elsewhere. "What the fu-"

"Oh don't mind them, they're just my friends." Somehow, that made the whole situation creepier. "Now, lets go. It'll only hurt for a moment."

Lunar pulled Y/N to the ceremony altar forcefully, and they didn't really have the energy to fight back.

"Wait, what do you mean it will hurt-"

Before Lunar could answer, Y/N's body - soul? - was already tearing itself apart.
