The Stolen Heart

Cadence's pov:

Today it was a quiet day and I was working at my desk when Erica said:

"Guys, I'm gonna buy some pizza for us. Does anyone want to come with me?" Erica asked us and I saw that no one wants so I offered:

"I'm gonna come with you, it's that okay captain?"

"Sure Cadence, thank you. Your colleagues are not grateful that I get them to eat a pizza for free." She said looking angry at the others jokingly.

I left with Erica and we were walking on the street when we heard a lady screaming. Both of us got startled and rushed to where the screaming was coming from.

"What's going on miss?" Erica asked.

"That man stole my purse! Please stop him." The lady said and Erica immediately started running. I was following them in case if Erica needed my help but they were too fast. I caught up with them and saw Erica on the ground while the man ran away. I wanted to stop to see what happened to Erica but I knew that I needed to stop that man. In that moment I could feel the adrenaline flowing through my veins. I was so determined to catch that man.

Finally I was able to catch up with him and I knocked him down. I arrested him and called for someone to pick him up to the police station.

Erica was so proud of Cadence and amazed because of her skills.

I returned to Erica just to see her still on the ground. I rushed to her and said:

"Captain! Are you okay? What happened?"

"That man stabbed me in the leg with a knife, but it's okay." Erica said making me worry.

"Let's get you to the hospital." I said and then I helped her walk to the taxi I called. We took the taxi and arrived to the hospital. After looking at her leg, the nurse said that it's not a deep cut. That's when I realized that Erica could have caught that man but she didn't, so it made me think a little. Why did she do that? Then Erica was smiling suspiciously and made me realize that she did it on purpose to let me catch him.

We left the hospital and then Erica stopped me and said:

"I'm very proud of you Cadence. This was your first case ever and you did amazing!"

"Thank you captain, it means a lot." I responded with a smile on my face.

"We should all go to a bar to celebrate your first case tonight!" She suggested.

"Sure, that's actually a good idea!" I agreed with enjoyment.

We returned at the office with the pizza and told the others about my first case. They all were proud of me and I could feel the warmth in our team.

The sun disappeared and we left to go to the bar. There we drank and danced a lot.

After one hour of fun everybody challenged their captain to go up on the stage to sing. She didn't want but she heard Cadence begging as well so she agreed and started singing. Everybody was fascinated by her voice, especially Cadence. Then everybody was telling Cadence to go on the stage to sing together with Erica.

Erica thought that Cadence wouldn't come up on the stage but in her surprise, Cadence went on the stage to sing with her.

They were staring at each other's eyes the whole song. They were so lost in the moment, that they felt that no one was watching them.

Erica quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact. Unfortunately the song finished and their friends said:

"Omgg guys! You did amazing!!!" The girls said.

"Thank yo-" Cadence was trying to say but got interrupted by Erica.

"Excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom." Erica said and everyone was confused because they didn't know what happened to her.

What could be the reason behind her suddenly cold mood?

Erica was standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom and saying to herself:
"Wtf is wrong with you Erica."

"You can't do this. Not again."

"Fuck. I like her."

She said with regret in her heart because in the past she had a colleague who became her lover and whom she loved extremely much. She had imagined the future with her but it was shattered when they had to participate in a mission and there unfortunately her beloved was shot with the gun and died.

Erica is just insecure and afraid of that happening again. She went through an extremely hard time when she lost her love of her life and she doesn't want that to happen again.

She started crying because she remembered her difficult time in her life and she doesn't want to risk going through it again.

Erica was interrupted by the bathroom door that was opening. It was Cadence, she immediately wiped her tears and washed her hands to get out of the bathroom faster. But Cadence grabbed her hand making her stop.

"What's wrong Erica?" Cadence asked worried.

"Nothing, Cadence. I think I drank too much and I don't feel too good."

"I'm sorry, did I do something wrong...?"

Erica shaked her head and said no and then she removed her hand from Cadence's grip.

They returned to the girls and Erica said that she will go home because she is not feeling well. The other girls nodded with a little worry in their eyes.
