"Read this, please." Stevie insists, thrusting the letter at him.

Lindsey grumbles, taking the paper. He opens it, Stevie fidgeting with her rings anxiously as she watches him.

"'Ren'? Who's 'Ren'?" he says, furiously, his eyes scanning the first few lines of the letter.

Stevie's eyes flash with something I can't quite
place. Maybe she forgot she put this 'Ren' person in there. Suddenly I'm intrigued too. Who is that?

"It doesn't matter," Stevie says, quickly. "Read."

"No, who's Ren? Some other guy you're fucking with?"

Stevie flares up straight away.

"How dare you!" She exclaims, jabbing Lindsey in the chest with her finger.

"So he is, then?" Lindsey laughs mirthlessly, pushing Stevie's hand away from his chest.

"Fuck you, Lindsey. It's none of your concern who he is."

"So why put him in the letter?!"

Stevie hesitates before confirming my theory, her lips pursed. "i forgot that i did,"

"Oh yeah," Lindsey scoffs.

Stevie moves to grab the letter seeing that he doesn't care about it, but he swats her away, his eyes back on the paper. He reads for a minute or so more, and pauses again.

"I heard about Robin," he says, slowly. "That sucks, sorry."

Stevie nods, still watching him. She takes a step back, as if she's scared of him. She probably is.

Suddenly, Lindsey stops, the letter slipping out of his hand a little. He fumbles to grab it, his eyes wide.

"You're.. you're marrying Kim?" he says, his voice dangerously quiet.

"Yes," Stevie whispers.

I can sense the anger radiating off of Lindsey as he opens his mouth to yell.

"But you don't even love him, Stevie!!" Lindsey exclaims, blowing up.

Stevie takes another few steps back.

"It's ridiculous, you can't marry him! His wife just died!" Lindsey throws his hands above his head, as if Stevie doesn't already know that Robin is dead.

"I know. But he needs someone-"

"He doesn't need anyone to marry him, Stevie!" Lindsey says, hysterically. "he's grieving! Leave him be!"

"Lindsey, i need to do this for him."

"NO, you don't!" Lindsey yells, looking for something to throw or smash.

Stevie smiles sadly. "Don't throw something, please." she says, calmly.

How is she so relaxed while Lindsey is quite literally turning red with anger? Lindsey lets out a strangled yell like some sort of animal, his hands curling into fists.

"Lindsey, calm down. I know i don't love him but-"

"So don't marry him!!" Lindsey says. "If you don't love him, don't do this."

"Why are you so stressed about this anyway, it's not like it affects you!" Stevie says, starting to get angry again.

"It does affect me," Lindsey says hesitantly, suddenly quiet.

"Oh, does it?" Stevie snaps, her dark eyes watching Lindsey angrily as he looks at her.

"It does. Because i love you, Steph."

Stevie stops, her lips parted.

I gasp quietly from behind the door, an uncomfortable feeling of dread growing in my stomach.

"You what?"

"I love you. I'm in love with you." Lindsey says again. I don't believe him for a second.

Stevie shakes her head slowly.

"But.. why? Why, Lindsey?!" suddenly she's upset again.

"What do you mean, 'why'?"

"Why do you love me?? Because i'm pretty, because i give you good music, why?" Stevie says, her voice cracking slightly.

"I don't know, i just do."

"You just... do." Stevie echoes, her words dripping with sarcasm.

Lindsey scowls, realising she isn't taking him seriously.

"Yes i do, Steph," Lindsey repeats. "please, don't marry Kim. It isn't right, and.. i wouldn't be able to cope."

He moves towards her, reaching to hug her.

"Don't you fucking touch me!" Stevie snaps, smacking his hand away.

He shrugs, stepping back. He's grinning at her, as if he thinks he's won this fight. He does, a few moments later.

Stevie sighs heavily, throwing her arms around him, clinging to him like a lifeline, her body shaking with silent sobs.

He hugs her tightly, smiling for some reason.

Suddenly, Stevie pulls back, wiping her eyes hurriedly.

She looks up at him with her deep brown eyes, a small smile creeping onto her face. Lindsey smiles too.

It's a wholesome moment, seeing them both together, but it makes me feel sick.

Lindsey goes to move away, but Stevie grabs him and pulls him back.

Then, she holds his face with both of her petite hands, and kisses him.

I don't stay outside the door to know how long the kiss lasts, i just run up to my bedroom.

I don't know why I care. But I do.
