Joel's POV:

"They kinda sound like an old married couple." I heard someone I've never even met whisper at another table.

People say we fight like a "couple" or "old married couple" all the time. At first it was funny but now, I don't know, it makes my face heat up and it shuts me up. I don't know why, because usually people say it's hard to make me shut up.

"Joel?" Jimmy asked, touching my shoulder. "Huh?" I asked. "You and Scott were, fighting, and you randomly stopped talking?" Jimmy said, pausing and muttering fighting. "Sorry, I was just thinking of something." I said as I laid my head down.

"Joel, can I talk to you?" Martyn asked, walking into my room. "What do you want?" I put my phone down and looked at Martyn. "What's up with you?" He asked. "Huh? What do you mean?" I sat up, confused. "What's up with you and Scott?" He reiterated. "We've been enemies since like 6th grade, what do you mean?" I put air quotes around enemies.

"I know that, you fight all the time. But recently, whenever you two are fighting you randomly stop talking when someone says a certain something." Martyn said, sitting down on my bed. "I have no idea what you mean." I said, turning my head away and crossing my arms. "Your actions say otherwise." He raised an eyebrow at me. "Ugh, I don't know. People used to say you fight like a couple or they sound like an old married couple all the time! And I used to laugh with them but now, I don't know." I groaned, flopping backwards.

"What about your red face? Know anything about that?" Martyn chuckled softly. My eyes widened and I sat up quickly. "What!?" I felt my face. It was heating up like it has been recently. "Shit." I sat there in silence for a few seconds. "Has he noticed?! Has anyone else noticed!? Why is it doing this?" I asked frantically.

Martyn laughed. "It's not funny! I'm freaking out here!" I groaned, covering my face with my hands. "It kinda is funny, you guys fight all the time yet you like him?" My hand fell off my face. "No I don't! I hate him!" I yelled. "Stop yelling!" I heard my mom say from downstairs. "Joel." Martyn said, putting a hand on my arm. "I'm pretty sure you do like him." He said calmly. "W-well you like Jimmy!" I yelled, not wanting to accept that I could like Scott. Martyn froze and I saw his face turn red. "Sorry..." I mumbled, bringing my knees to my chest.

"Give me your phone." I heard Martyn say. "W-what?" I asked, confused. "Please? I want to do something." I confusingly gave him my phone.

Martyn's POV:

Scott 😒

(Joel 🙏

Scotttttt

Scott 😒)

Joellllll?

(Joel 🙏

Are you busy tomorrow?

Scott 😒)

Uh, no, why? Is Martyn asking

or something

(Joel 🙏

No, I'm asking. Wanna meet at the fair thing that's happening tomorrow

Scott 😒)

Oh, okay, sure. What time?

(Joel 🙏

Um, is 2pm alright with you?

Scott 😒)

Yeah that's fine, I'll see you

there I guess!

(Joel 🙏

Yeah see you there

"Who are you texting?" Joel asked as I sent the last message. "You are now busy tomorrow at 2pm!" I said while smirking as I handed Joel his phone. "What?!" He grabbed his phone and checked who I texted. "Martyn. Why did you do this?" He asked, looking worried. "Because, you two need to talk, and I'm honestly done with the fighting." I shrugged.

He face palmed. "We're just gonna fight, Martyn, I don't know why he even said yes." Joel groaned. "Just don't fight?" I chuckled. "It's not that easy, I think..." He said and paused. "Just try." I then got up and went to my room.

Scott's POV:

I was just sitting in shock for a few minutes. Why would he text me to hang out? I'm calling Martyn.

"Martyn Martyn Martyn Martyn." I said over and over. "What?" I heard him respond. "Where is Joel right now?!" I almost screamed. "In his room I'm pretty sure, why?" I was still shocked trying to figure out what to say. "I-I, uh" I started saying. "What? Did he do something?" Martyn asked. "He asked me to hang out tomorrow!" I yelled into the phone. "Is that a problem?" He asked again.

"Yes! Number one, he hates me, number two, we fight every time we see each other, and number three, he didn't specify if it was a date or not!" I yelled again. Martyn went silent for a few seconds. "D-do you want it to be a date." I froze again. "Scott? You're not really acting like Scott, you're usually all confident about everything. Do you want it to be a date?" I heard Martyn laugh and say again. I hung up, I don't know why. I guess I needed time to think.
