I was on my way to dance class when some kid smacked my books to the floor, for the fourth time today. “Nerd” he said, as he and his friend laughed and made fun of me. What did I do to deserve this kind of treatment? I asked myself. In the midst of me picking up my books, a friendly hand reached out and helped me. I flinched a little with anticipation of something worse to happen, however, nothing came my way.

“Here you go.” He spoke as he picked up the last of my books and handing them to me. I could not help but to stare at his beautiful face. He had a nice even complexion, with amazing eyes. His hair was in braids, and hung down to the base of his neck.

“Thanks” I managed to say through the ball of air caught in my throat. I cleared my throat in hopes to get rid of it.

“No problem.” The unknown person gave me a sly smile and I couldn’t help but smiled back. I was going to walk away and head to class but he stopped me. “Hey can I ask you a question?” All hint of playfulness was now gone from his eyes and was replaced by seriousness.

“You already did.” I found myself saying smartly.

He let out a small laugh and said, “No seriously.”

“Go ahead.” I shifted my weight to one leg and slightly tilted my head to one side, admiring his posture, and physique. He held an air about him that said he knew how to handle his own, that he stood for nothing, and that he was one person you wouldn’t dare to cross the wrong way.

He took a short moment and finally said, “Why do people treat you this way? What did you do that’s so bad, everyone treats you the way they do?” I was not sure of how to take his question or how to answer it for that matter.

Finding something to say I spoke. “To be completely honest, I’ve done nothing at all.”

“So why do they do it?” He questioned.

Who is this guy and why is he talking to me? Ignoring my thoughts, I answered his question. “I wish I knew. What’s your name by the way?” The serious look in his eyes faded a bit and he smiled down at me.

“Kelly Bradshaw. I’m in your AP Calculus and AP Chemistry class.” His smile could make any girl melt in their shoes. I had to take a deep breath and still my nerves before I could say anything.

“How come I have never seen you before?” I said trying to hide the excitement of someone actually talking to me. It felt good to be noticed for a few moments.

“I try not to be seen.” His cool vibe is unbearably sexy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a girlfriend already.

“I wish I could do the same.” I mumbled hoping he did not hear me.

“Why what’s wrong with not being seen?”

I took a deep breath before answering. “Nothing is wrong with it. I just want people to see the real me. Not some quiet little ‘nerd’ that gets pushed around a lot.”

“Not everyone sees you that way, you know. You just have to look in the right places and be yourself. You never know, you just might meet some interesting people that way.” He knew nothing about me, so how can he stand here and tell me what I should and shouldn’t do in my life. Until he has lived in my shoes for a few months then I’ll take advice from him.

Not caring what he thinks. I replied just to be nice. “Yeah that could help. But the thing is, I’ve been acting myself for the past three and a half years and people still treat me the same way.”

“You just have to look in the right places.” Simple as that I guess. It grew quiet for a minute until he asked, “So where are you headed?”

“I have dance class next?”

“Okay, cool, I’m heading that way anyway. Why don’t I walk you?”

“Uh thanks.” I was not expecting that, but it is nice to have at least one person you as if you are human and not just a doormat.

Without much of asking, Kelly grabbed my books from my hand and we began walking to class. With the little time we just spent talking with one another I take it that he is a real nice person. The other boys can and never will treat me like this. It is surprising how he has been in my class all of three months and I have never seen him before.

Maybe he is my guardian angel and it is time for him to start his mission… On the other hand, maybe it is all just a dream. He is sweet and gets where I am coming from. I wonder why other people cannot be like this, why do they treat me the way they do now? What did I ever do to them to get to this point? Many of those questions were flowing through my mind as we walked down the hall. We reached the dance room and he gave me my books. “Thanks Kelly.” I say feeling slightly nervous now. I felt butterflies in my stomach and I wasn’t sure what to do about it.

“You’re welcome. Just being nice since no one else is.” And that was the thing, he was being nice to me. Just to think he really cares about my feelings. I smiled at his generosity.

Still holding my hand I asked, “So what class do you have now?”

“I have music class. I’m more of a rap person than a dance type.”

“I see. I sing and dance but I prefer dancing more."

“That’s good to know.” He let out a small but yet sexy laugh. “Well, I’ll see you around sometimes.” He flashed that sexy smile of his and kissed the back of my hand.

“Yeah I guess.” I can feel the heat rushing to my face causing me to blush.

“Can I get a hug?” Once again, he flashed that sexy smile of his. I could stand here forever and stare at him and his smile. I wonder how long he has seen me around.

“Sure.”

He stood before me with open arms; I took the offer and gave him a hug. He smelled so good, and was so strong, when we released, he flashed a smile once again and went down the hall. I walked in the class and the bell rung. It is time for us to start class now. We were learning ballroom dancing this week, and next week is Latin.
