Pulling in the drive way I gun it and make a cloud of dust trail behind us. As we come through the clearing three more jacked up trucks and a jeep line the grass along the drive way and the festivities don't start until later tonight.
I had just turned the jeep of when I see Brantley waving his arms tryin to get my attention. Kick it in four wheel drive and pull around back by the deck little bit. He tells me as he heads around back. Jozie gives me a look that says she has no clue why. We pull around back to find the tables and chairs already set up and the outdoor kitchen waiting for us to get started.
Jozie and I start to unload the jeep but are shewed away. You to head to the main kitchen and start on the sides for us pretty please Justin asks extra sweetly. Ya what he said Brantley chimes in. I need some of that mack and cheese Justin keeps telling me about. I pause and turn to Brantley with my hands out. That will cost you B. I don't have all the ingredients so I gotta go to the store again. I think this time we take your truck. I say giving Jozie a hopeful smile.
To my complete surprise Brantley reaches in his pocket, pulls out a set of keys, looks at them for a second, then tells me if you get mine I get yours.
Reaching in my back pocket I can't help but smile. I have his bg emblem bottle opener on my key chain. What that pretty smile all about? He asks walking towards us. Oh nothin I answers as nonchalant as possible. He takes my key, grinning ear to ear when he looks in his hand. Please be careful with my baby he says as I take his keys sliding my tinny fingers in the holes of the brass nuckle key chain.
Before we can take the first step towards the grag B grabs my wrist stopping me in my tracks. It stays on the pavement do you understand me? He asks in an extremely gruff intimidating tone. No ditches, creeks, cricks, mud holes, corn fields, bean fields, wheat fields.... I can tell he's trying desperately not to forget any possible loop holes. Just keep it on the black top for me Little Bit. He says almost pleading with me.
I give Jozie a sideways look telling her to be ready to run for it. I look at Brantley, make sure I have the right key and tell him ok in a defeated tone; ill just drive it like I stole it. With those words Jozie and I make a run for it. Justin's laughter can be heard as I turn the key and put the truck in gear. As we pull out I can see the horrified look on Bs face in the rear view mirror, Justin trying to console him, and Kolby utterly confused as to why the truck is leaving and B isn't driving.
