-----------► Your and Megumi's attempt."How's my Gumi bear doinggggg?" You attacked from behind, arms wrapped around his waist tightly. He nearly dropped the bowl of strawberry he was busy preparing. His eyes snapped to you, who was still clinging onto him from behind. To say that he was startled was an understatement, wearing an expression that had an equal balance of both disgust and horror. Even as far as concerned for your out-of-character behaviour.
The two of you stayed in silence for a long ass second. Before you finally unlatched yourself from him. "I'm sorry." You apologised flatly before pulling away, shivering from the ick you managed to give to yourself. "Just trying something out."
Megumi seemed to stare at you even harder. This was not what he had expected when you invited him to spend the Sunday afternoon together, snacking and playing monopoly in the first year common room.
You were unfazed as you finished brewing some black coffee and a cup of tea. His eyes lingered on you cautiously as the two of you swiftly set up the little snacking area next to the monopoly board. You slid the mug of black coffee to him as he set down the bowl of strawberry next to you, drizzled with tooth-rotting honey, just how you like it. "Was I the hat or the dog again?" You plopped on your bean bag, eyeing the two pieces on the board. "The dog's yours..." Megumi responded, "...oh and be careful, I might have poured too much honey, it might be a little too sweet-"
"Not as sweet as you." You slipped the line in. He stared at you, eyebrow raised.
"..."
"What the hell's gotten into you?"
You sighed. "Just go along with it, I'm trying something out." No response, his stares burning holes in you.
"Is this some sick social experiment that's taking place, because I do not consent." Megumi began to stand up, and you quickly pushed him down back to his seat. You gave him a look. Another sigh. "Megs... be honest, does it feel like we're dating?" "...what do you mean." He questioned. "Well, I mean how long have we been dating?... Pushing a month?" You calculated. "Yet I feel like we're an old couple, retired and looking out for a coffin. Do you get what I mean? Because I swear dating feels more exciting than this you know? Like where's the spark?"
"Oh." Megumi sank back a little in his seat, more than relieved to know that you haven't gone insane with those cheesy lines that he knew you made fun of other people saying normally. "Well, what were you expecting?"
"I don't know, but definitely not this. I thought I'd feel more giddy? Like having butterflies and stuff around you, and act really cutesy or whatever whenever I'm around you cause I care about what you think. But instead I just feel normal. I'll take a shit in front of you for all I care.""..." Megumi only gave you that signature look of his. "So it's my problem?"
"You're hot." You stated suddenly, watching him closely.
"What?!" He called out, perplexed.
You sighed again. "See, now normally, the boyfriend would feel all flustered when their girlfriend compliments them. You look disturbed."
Megumi ruffled his hair. "That's completely different, you can't just throw that in randomly. It confuses people more than anything." Megumi reasoned.
"Well, that's true... But still, how you act normally on a daily basis isn't romantic at all."
Megumi rolled his eyes at you, returning to his black coffee. "You can't force these moments, dumbass.""I'll die before the day I'll ever catch you being spontaneously romantic."
"Then what would you like?" Megumi asked grumpily. "Do you want me to pat you on the head, kiss you and tell you that I love you to the moon and back?"
"No. That's revolting." You gagged just thinking about it. Something about Megumi doing all these things were just so uncanny. "I guess it doesn't help that our personalities is as exciting as that black coffee of yours." You concluded. That, Megumi silently nodded. "Exactly. We're not the type. And I plan to staying like how it is." He muttered. "Plus, you're telling me how to act when you just admitted you'll take a shit in front of me. Is that any normal girlfriend behaviour?" You laughed sheepishly. "I guess not." The air is still again as you fiddle with the monopoly pieces.
"Well, enough of that. Your turn Megs."
He hummed as a response before taking his turn at rolling the dice. "...why were you think about that anyways..."You didn't answer immediately as you zoned out looking out the window, which framed a perfectly peaceful scenery, gentle breeze caressing the trees, butterflies fluttering in soft sunshine.
As if it couldn't break into utter chaos any second if a curse went loose.
"Do you think we'll even make it past high school?" Your voice was barely above a whisper. "I don't know, I sorta just wanted to experience everything before... you know."This wasn't the reason Megumi expected. He wanted to comfort you, deny your concerns and tell you that of course you'd all make it past high school. But he was a realistic man, and thought realistically.
A hand snaked around your shoulder, his thumb rubbing circles in an attempt to comfort you.
You smiled at his effort.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to experience some norm." Megumi said. "I hear that some people watches horror movies with people they like, as it can make you closer, by releasing a combination of dopamine, adrenaline, endorphins. I'm not against the idea."
You laughed. "You big nerd."
Megumi ignored your direct insult. "You've said that you don't feel anything, right? We can do something thrilling. Maybe rollercoasters?"
"I don't think it gets anymore thrilling than trying not to die everyday."
"...I see."
You began tidying up and folding up the board game, giving up on the game as it wasn't going anywhere. "And, I'm pretty convinced that I'm immune to feeling giddy." You admitted, standing up into the warm orange hue from the setting sun, stretching out your numb legs. "Plus, I don't even need to feel giddy. You by my side is enough. I'm happy."
Little did you know, that thoughtless slip of the tongue had Megumi weak in the knees. Subtly hugging his knees, and underneath his buried head, was the slightest tint growing hotter by the second. The thought of being needed by you had him light-headed.
If only you had noticed, instead you had your back turned, oblivious as usual.
"Well, let us dull individuals stick together till the end yeah? Let's not bore other people now." You laughed to yourself, before closing the door after you. Leaving Megumi to do his best to calm his restless heart.—
