The four of you walked in the lantern-lit streets as night fell. You walked alongside Mizu to make sure she was still feeling well. Besides, it was her idea to leave the shrine and head back to the city without even a day of healing.
"What are we even doing in the city?" Taigen asked, walking towards Mizu. "You're not trying to run away from our duel, are you?" he asked, grabbing her arm.
Her face, once calm, returned to frustration as Taigen tightened his grip on her arm.
"I have no intention of running away. My priorities lie elsewhere," she wrenched her arm free from his grip.
The air suddenly thickened between the two as you and Ringo went a separate way to find some shops. The first place you two went to was a Sakaya, which sold many varieties of sake and other alcoholic beverages.
"Sake?" Ringo asked, looking at the bottles. You had never had sake before, but with everything that's happened in the last few weeks, you felt a strong desire to drink something. As you looked at every shelf and read every label, you settled on the strongest drink they had.
The shop owner saw you taking a bottle before putting it back, then taking another off the shelf before putting it back yet again.
"Do you need help, miss?" he asked as he slowly made his way over.
You nodded as he smiled before rummaging through a small box and pulling out a small glass.
"Here, try some of these and find one that suits your liking," he passed you the glass before leaving.
Ringo had to basically drag you out once you finally landed on a drink. As you stepped out into the cold, the sake started to get to your brain. Everything became so woozy, and you tried your best to stay calm and act as normal as possible.
"We should find Mizu before we get into some kind of trouble," he said, gently taking you by the shoulders as you began to stumble at every step you took.
Mizu and Taigen took a long time before realizing the two of you had wandered off.
"Y/n?" Mizu called out. "Ringo, where's Y/n?" she asked, getting no response from him.
"He's gone too," Taigen said. "How'd you not notice?" he raised his eyebrow.
"That doesn't matter," she said before walking off to find you. And Ringo too.
Since no one else was out at this time, she just followed the footsteps in the snow, walking back to where the pair of footprints had stopped. It must have been a couple of minutes before she found where the two were. From afar, she saw Ringo trying not to laugh as you kept on swaying side to side before having to redirect you in a straight path.
She quickly made her way over to see you carrying two large bottles in your hands.
"You shouldn't wander off like that, Y/n," Mizu's voice was stern, but she still had a hint of concern as she saw the state you were in.
"Don't worry, master! She is safe in my hands," Ringo said, holding you up straight so you wouldn't fall over.
"You don't even have hands," Taigen said, walking up from behind.
You stifled a laugh but began to hiccup resolutely before taking off again.
"Wait, Y/n!" Ringo called out as you started walking side to side. The fresh coat of snow on the ground wasn't helping you keep balance. With such little sake in your system, you were already acting like you've drunk a whole bottle. It was getting harder for you to walk before you managed to step one foot in front of the other, causing you to fall onto your side.
Mizu was the first to get over to you as she quickly helped you up. You kept on giggling as she wiped the snow off your clothes.
"Is she alright?" Taigen asked, walking up with Ringo following behind.
You stopped, taking out the paper as you sloppily wrote something down. The three of them couldn't even tell what you just wrote; your handwriting was atrocious, and they couldn't read a single thing on the paper.
"Ringo, how much has she had?" Mizu asked, holding your shoulders.
"Maybe four glasses," Ringo tried to recall on how many glasses you took.
"Shouldn't we just stop for the night? It's obvious we won't get far with her like this," Taigen suggested as he looked around for a place to stay.
Once they located some place for the night, you wobbled in before falling right into the futon. Luckily, the place only had three rooms, meaning you'd have to share with Mizu. It's not like you minded this, but with you in your current state, you didn't know what you'd do tonight.
You still had a grip on the two bottles as you rolled onto your back, looking up at the ceiling as Mizu entered the room.
"You don't need two bottles, Y/n," Mizu said as she grabbed the bottles from your hands and placed them on the floor.
You let out a whine, but you were far too weak to fight back and just watched as she placed them down. She turned around for just a couple of seconds before turning back to find you already drinking from one of the bottles. She quickly grabbed it out of your hand as you wiped your mouth dry.
"Y/n, you've had far more than enough tonight," she said, taking the bottle and placing it much closer to her this time.
Your hiccups returned as you reached for some paper in your bag as Mizu quickly left the room. She returned right after with a cup of water.
"Drink this instead, Y/n," she handed you the cup and watched as your hands began to shake as you lifted the glass closer to your mouth.
"Let me," she said, coming closer to you. She took a hold of the cup and slowly tilted it so you would be able to drink.
"Thank you" is what Mizu read on the paper you handed her. She raised an eyebrow as she looked at you then back at the paper.
"You're welcome?" her tone was confused as she handed you back the paper as you smiled.
For the rest of the night, you kept on passing illegible notes as Mizu tried her best to read them and responded as best as she could. Somehow, you went from sitting up straight to being slumped over on the brink of falling asleep as Mizu laid right next to you. The two of you kept eye contact, facing each other. There was complete silence as you two just kept on looking at each other.
"I think... I love you, Mizu," you smiled as the words fell from your mouth.
