It's Saturday, and Harry is trying his best to escape the clutches of Rita Skeeter. Not that I blame him, but I would have given a nice shock of electric current had I been in his place. No one messes with me. I took a shower and got ready in my . Then I joined Ginny and Fay. Hermione had gone with Harry and Ronald went with Seamus.
We sat in the Three Broomsticks as Ginny, Fay and I drank some butterbeer, and shared some mint flavoured brownies. Suddenly I saw Harry vanish, as Hermione sat with a tin. Must be those SPEW stuff... Honestly when will the girl give up. It's like running some muggle NGO which no one wants to keep contact with. Then I saw the reason behind his behavior... none other than the bulldozer Rita Skeeter. She was there with her meezle photographer. I sat watching the people in the pub. All of them looked cheerful and relaxed. Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbot were swapping Chocolate Frog cards at a nearby table; both of them sporting Support Cedric Diggory! badges on their cloaks.
Right over by the door he saw Cho and a large group of her Ravenclaw friends. She wasn't wearing a Cedric badge though... thank Merlin for that.
"Ams," said Ginny. "It's Hagrid. He's going to Hermione's table."
"Well you stay here, while I give her some company." I said. With that I went and sat beside Hermione, sipping away my butterbeer.
The back of Hagrid's enormous shaggy head - he had mercifully abandoned his bunches - emerged over the crowd. I wondered why he hadn't spotted Harry under the table at once, as Hagrid was so large, but standing up carefully, he saw that Hagrid had been leaning low, talking to Barty. Hagrid had his usual enormous tankard in front of him, but Barty as usual, was drinking from his hip flask. Madam Rosmerta, the pretty landlady, didn't seem to think much of this; she was looking askance at Barty as she collected glasses from tables around them. Perhaps she thought it was an insult to her mulled mead, but I knew better. Barty needed to drink his Polyjuice Potion every hour so as to keep up with his façade. I saw Hagrid and Barty get up to leave. I felt a certain movement. Barty, however, paused, his magical eye on the corner where Harry was standing in his invisibility cloak. He tapped Hagrid in the small of the back, muttered something to him, and then the pair of them made their way back across the pub toward our table.
"All right, Hermione?" said Hagrid loudly. "Alright Alex?"
"Hello," said Hermione, smiling back.
"Hey Hagrid" I said as I smiled. I saw Barty limp around the table and bent down; as if he was reading the S.P.E.W. notebook, until he muttered his words.
"Nice cloak, Potter." And then the devil grinned.
"Can your eye - I mean, can you -?" asked Harry still in his cloak.
"Yeah, it can see through Invisibility Cloaks," he said quietly. "And it's come in useful at times, I can tell you." Indeed. Hagrid now bent down on the pretext of reading the S.P.E.W. notebook as well, and said in a whisper so low that only Harry could hear it.
"Harry, meet me tonight at midnight at me cabin. Wear that cloak. And Alex you come as well." Straightening up, Hagrid said loudly, "Nice ter see yeh, Hermione," winked, and departed. Barty followed him. He turned as he looked at me, as he gave me a piercing stare.
"We shall meet soon." With that he left.
"Why does Hagrid want me to meet him at midnight?" Harry said, very surprised.
"Does he?" said Hermione, looking startled. "I wonder what he's up to? I don't know whether you should go, Harry..." She looked nervously around and hissed, "It might make you late for Sirius."
"I'll make sure he's not late for Padfoot." I said. Hermione nodded.
That evening I got changed into my . I had not visited Barty since then, except for getting information about the next Defense Against the Dark Arts Lessons, or to sit with him and grade the essays. But every time I did spend some time, I felt him staring into my soul, like a psychotic stalker. As if he was giving me a look piercing right into my very soul.
I stood in front of the Fat Lady's portrait and said the password, as Harry came out.
"Thanks" he said.
"Come on" I said as he wrapped the cloak around himself.
"Why ain't you taking the help of the cloak?" he asked.
"I am assistant to Professor Moody, so that makes me member of teaching staff Harry James Potter." I said. "So I am allowed free entertainment of seeing the tasks. Plus I shall be pretending to talk to Charlie Weasley." I said.
The grounds were very dark. Harry and I walked down the lawn toward the lights shining in Hagrid's cabin. The inside of the enormous Beauxbatons carriage was also lit up; We could hear Madame Maxime talking inside it as Harry knocked on Hagrid's front door.
"Hagrid" I acknowledged.
"Alexia," he greeted. "You there, Harry?" Hagrid whispered, opening the door and looking around.
"Yeah," said Harry, slipping inside the cabin and pulling the cloak down off his head. "What's up?"
"Got summat ter show yeh," said Hagrid.
I saw that there was an air of enormous excitement about Hagrid. He was wearing a flower that resembled an oversized artichoke in his buttonhole. It looked as though he had abandoned the use of axle grease, but he had certainly attempted to comb his hair - Harry could see the comb's broken teeth tangled in it. Now this is worth a watch... Hagrid groomed up... We all walked to the forest and soon we began to walk. It was then that Harry noticed him so closely.
"Hagrid, have you combed your hair?" said Harry.
"As a matter of fact, I have. You might like to try the same thing now and again." Hagrid replied. Just then we heard a roaring sound. Charlie.
"Hagrid?" called out Maxime.
"Bonsoir, Olympe." Said Hagrid.
"Oh, Hagrid. I thought perhaps you weren't coming. I thought perhaps... you had... forgotten me." she said.
"Huh! I couldn't forget you, Olympe." He said. At this Harry and I made a gagging motion as we smirked at each other. How corny can one get!
"What is it you wanted to show me? When we spoke earlier, you sounded so... exhilarated." she said.
"You'll be glad you came, trust me." Hagrid replied smiling away. We kept walking until we came to a forest moor. Then Maxime noticed me.
"What are you doing here? A student too!" she said.
"Ah! I so hate to break your dream bubble, but I am an assistant to Professor Moody as well, giving me the priviledge to roam about. Plus am here not to act as a third wheel for your little night time date with Hagrid, bit for a friend of mine. Hey Charlie!" I said as I went and met up with him. I then saw a four female dragons – a Swedish Shortsnout, A Chinese Firebolt, a Common Welsh Green and a Hungarian Horntail... and the most vicious one was the horntail itself...
