☠︎︎ PROLOGUE ☠︎︎
SOFT HUMMING COOED LITTLE Isabell to sleep. Fingers gently brushing the hair out of her face, the gentle touch of a hand brushing up and down her small arm. A sensation that never left her body; haunting her. Darkness surrounded the young girl, like a warm friendly hug. But nothing about the darkness that lay inside of her was friendly. Strong vanilla perfume relaxed her whole body, sending her to dream about ice cream and cupcakes.
Slipping through my fingers all the time, I try to capture every minute. The feeling in it, slipping through my fingers all the time.
Her mother sang a song from the two's favourite film, they watched it every week or after every burst of anger Isabell got. It calmed her, it turned the heat in the girls fingers to snow. Every night she would softly sing her to sleep, to rid any monsters out of her dreams, it would just be the soft voice of her mother echoing through her mind. Who knew how that pure memory could turn into a malicious reminder.
Do I really see what's in her mind? Each time I think i'm close to knowing, she keeps on growing, slipping through my fingers all the time.
Isabell had been expelled from her 5th school, she didn't know how it happened (much like the other times), but a girl in her science class, Willow, kept whispering about Izzy and once she brought up her mom the girl saw red. Her whole body grew hot, but the heat was unbearable in her hands, the bunsen burner's flame in front of the bully grew bigger and stronger, till it caught fire to her hair. It was a terrible smell, but it strangely satisfied the young girl. Revenge was the best kind of therapy. There was so much screaming, but nobody was injured, Isabell just laughed at the situation which just made everyone else believe she tampered with the burner. The principal told her she was lucky she wasn't going to be reported to the police.
She went home and was unable to hold back her tears when she saw her mom on the couch, with the same loving expression she held when she looked at her daughter. Her mom kissed her head and brushed the hair that stuck to her cheeks from the hot tears that spilled from her eyes. Isabell didn't understand how her mother could love such a monster. She'd done so many horrible things, but every time she turned to her mom's gentle face it was the same loving expression each time.
"I didn't do it, I swear." Isabell cried her tears turned to steam unbeknownst to her. But her mother saw, she saw the curse she inflicted on her innocent daughter, "There's something wrong with me, mom, I burn when i'm angry or sad like i'm on fire. I feel... I-I feel... I need help." The girl from a very young age knew she was different from other children, it didn't help when she looked in the mirror and sometimes found herself surrounded by flames, she also spoke to a dog once it was a quite strange experience.
"Oh, my baby, my sweet baby." Her mother cried with her, placing gentle kisses to her head, her heart shattering seeing her daughter like this. "Belly, look at me. You're perfect you hear me, don't let anyone tell you different, I love you so so much." The only person who truly looked at her with nothing but love in her eyes was her mother, she believed in Isabell so much it make her believe she could do anything.
