Yawning, you moved your body upright on the couch, rubbing your eyes as you looked around. You blinked as you sat there, realizing how quiet it was. Confused, you grabbed your phone, reading the time.

9:30 p.m.

You groaned, stretching as you got up, stumbling forward. You sleepily walked around the lair, looking for any sign of life. You got halfway through the lair, slightly annoyed, before you finally reached the dojo. Sliding the door open, your eyes widening as you saw Splinter meditating, his eyes closed in deep concentration.

You held your breath as you took a step back, not wanting to disrupt him.

"Do not be shy," You cringed slightly, peaking your head back in, "Come in (Y/n)." Your nerves relaxed slightly as you watched him smile at you, his eyes watching you as you came and sat in front of him. You crossed your legs and bowed slightly, trying to remember the honorifics Leo told you.

"Master Splinter." You nodded to him, a small smile on your face. You always enjoyed the rat's company, the time you spent together while the boys were on patrol made you cherish his wise mind.

You watched as the rat leaned in closer, his eyes almost examining you. You shifted slightly, feeling like an open book.

"What is troubling you, hm?" He finally sat back, resting his hands on his knees as he stared at you. You cursed silently as you shrugged your shoulders, looking as casual as you could.

"Nothing's going on...it's...." You trailed off, looking away from him for a second as you cleared your throat. "I-I've been struggling with school."

Not exactly a lie, but not the whole truth.

Splinter was quiet as he stared at you. You swallowed a bit, continuing.

"A-And I've just been busy with school, ya know? I just wanted to pass my final exams, but I don't think I did..." You laughed a bit, before you quieted down, blinking as you avoided his gaze, lowering your head slightly.

"I...I miss my parents, Master..." You whispered, clenching your fists slightly as you bit back the lump in your throat.

Not exactly a lie either.

After a few seconds of quiet, you heard Splinter take in a deep breath, releasing it slowly.

"Is that why you have not been taking care of yourself (Y/n)?" You winced, looking up at him. His expression was one of empathy, his eyes as kind as you remembered. God, it had been too long.

You only nodded, not trusting yourself to speak. Who knows, you'd probably start blabbering like a baby.

You watched as Splinter reached out a hand, stroking your head delicately. You closed your eyes slightly, the breath you were holding leaving your lips as you relaxed. You smiled as he pulled his hand away.

"(Y/n), life is full of challenges we all must face. But, to confront those difficulties, one has to understand where their weaknesses are and allow those closest to them to help them keep moving forward." You nodded as your phone buzzed in your pocket. Embarrassed you quieted it, looking back to Splinter. His face only held the same empathy you saw before, a smile on his lips.

"While you have friendship with my sons, you can always confide in me (Y/n). I am always on your side." You nodded again, reaching out and hugging the rat, smiling as you felt his arms wrap around you.
