Taehyung felt a tug at his stabbed flesh, announcing a pain he didn't know he was capable of feeling.
The blinding ache tore through his veil of power as he turned to the sight awaiting him. They were surrounded by numbers that, in loose words, wasn't the feat of Farouq.
He had always known it would come to this. He always knew what Eduardo was doing behind his back and he had seen it all but he had assumed that it would never have a baggage weighing him down like this.
The sound of the wind being cut by the swing of something sharp—it came as no surprise. He felt the impact.
No surprise, he thought as he landed on his face and kissed the dirt.
"Taehyung!"
Ah.
Jangmi.
Why was everything so slow to his eyes? Like a cool wave of realisation poisoning him.
He grabbed the wooden cane that was about to be swung for the second time. When he spun around, he twisted it out of the man's hand and sent the blow to his head. With the pistol hidden in his pocket, he turned to the man holding Jangmi hostage.
It didn't matter if she died, did it?
All he had to do was kill Farouq.
But why couldn't he pull the trigger just like that? What was he waiting for to happen?
Hadn't he waited for this for so long?
He let his breath go and turned to all his men held back by his command.
"You're still worried about her?" He smirked at Jungkook's glassy eyes and slowly traced all the eyes watching him in horror.
"D-Don." Jungkook raised his paws to hold his calm. "Don't be rash. They will kill her."
"Why does it matter?" Taehyung turned back to look at her on her knees against the gun to her head. "All my problems will end if she is gone."
"That is quite a deduction Kim Taehyung." Farouq laughed. "But we don't have to worry if you wait or not, we can kill her right now you see? Drop your gun or watch Bo-Ra's fate repeat at your hands."
"Oh god stop making everything about her!" He shouted, smacking the handle of the pistol against his head. "Why do you think it matters? She is long gone. It doesn't make a difference if I save her or not."
"Alright." Inspector Yook appeared to Jangmi's side. He placed his arm on her trembling shoulder. Looking into her shimmering eyes, he smiled. "Let me tell you what kind of man Kim Taehyung truly is."
Taehyung felt something fall in his chest but he held his feet, knowing that he couldn't falter yet.
"Do you think he is stupid enough to never have known what was happening all this time?"
Even as the words left his mouth, Taehyung felt a stabbing pain in his gut.
Inspector Yook's words widened her soggy eyes and the freezing shock made her glance at Taehyung, expecting nothing but harm.
"He has been watching all of it happen to you since the day he met you." Yook laughed and then glanced at Taehyung like he was the devil he despised. "He knew from the start what was happening in your head."
