Kari was on her own, feeling lonely and emptiness before meeting Valon, who recognizes her as a fellow Duelist who wants nothing more than to be the best. He wants her to stand by his side and he'll keep on winning, just for her, against anyone she wants. He says that she is "his" reason to keep on winning while at the same time he encourages her to forget about her friends and gain the power of The Seal of Orichalcos by joining Dartz's henchmen. Nonetheless, Kari agreed. Under Dartz's influence, Kari believes that it was Yami, Tea, and her other friends that abandoned her. She particularly despises the Pharaoh and wants to defeat him for herself.
"The Pharaoh belongs to me, I'll be the one to bring him to his knees"
Kari said as she took a step forward towards her former friends.
"Kari, don't do this, we're your friends. You can lose your soul"
Tea shouted trying to knock sense into her best friend who simply refused to listen.
"You took my heart out and stomp on it, like it meant nothing!"
Kari shouted angrily while her new friends stood to the side as they watched. Yami didn't know what to do but to play by Kari's rules as she played the seal.
"I was all alone and not even one of you cared about me to actually check up on me"
She said putting a monster out on the field gaining extra attack points from the seal.
"But then I realized something, sometimes it's better to be alone"
Kari said.
"What do you mean?"
Yami asked as he placed one card down in defense mode.
"Nobody can hurt me"
She said as she sent her monster to attack. Kari looked at her next card and smirk.
"For my next move I summon, hold on, let me read it"
She says take a closer look at the card before smiling.
"Since I didn't get it at all, I'll allow it"
She said with a laugh as she placed a magic card faced down and ended her turn.
"Kari, please, you have to listen"
Yami said trying to break through to her.
"I am done listening. Done with friendship and done with you"
She stated angrily.
"I know this isn't you. I understand how you're feeling, confused and sad but you went too far on giving up your soul for one chance at revenge..."
"And that's all I need to get rid of you"
She said with a glare.
"You know, I would have given anything to be exactly like everybody else"
Yami said putting his duel disk down. Kari was confused but kept her guard up for anything.
"You wanted to be petty and dishonest?"
"Everybody's not like that."
"Yes, they are"
"You're not like that"
"How do you know what I'm like? You never gotten the chance to know me, you only fucked me and that was it"
She said causing a few gasps in surprise at the new detail as to why Kari did what she did.
"Wait when was this?"
Tea asked.
"The day of the ball"
She sneered as she placed another monster on the field.
"I do love you but I only did what you wanted"
Yami said.
"Just draw your next card dammit. I loved you too but now that love has turned to rage."
Kari said angrily but Yami refused to play another card.
"If I had known how long it was going to take you to make a move, I would have brought a magazine"
"Just finish him off, princess!"
Valon shouted.
"Back off, my game, my rules"
She stated. Yami took a deep breath as he played his best and was getting to a close call on ending the game.
"Kari, deep down if you still care, I'm no longer with Tea. I couldn't see her as more than a friend and you're right, I should have checked up on you, I should have been a better friend but I was busy searching for my memories of who I was and who I am."
He said sincerely as she grew quite.
"You hurt me"
She said on the verge of tears.
"And I wish I could take it back, for we can have more time together. If we get out of this mess, I want to start over with you"
He said causing Kari to cry as she snapped out of her control before looking around fearfully.
"What have I done? What do I do?"
She asked before falling to her knees. Yami tried walking up to her but it was frozen.
"Kari, you have to listen to me. If one of us loses, then we lose our soul. Dartz took advantage of your time of despair. We have to fight back."
He said causing Kari to get back on her feet with a smile.
"I guess there's only one thing you should do for me"
She said. Yami frowned at her words and watched her place her hand over her deck, forfeiting the Duel.
"Kari no!"
Yami yelled along with Tea and the others.
"Rescue me"
She said softly before her soul was taken away in a beam of light. Yami quickly ran to catch her body as she collapsed to the ground. Yami held her hand before angrily looking up towards Valon and the others as they drove off on their motorcycle into the night. Tea slowly walked up behind Yami who was looking down at Kari's lifeless body.
"Pharaoh, is it true?"
She asked but Yami remained quiet as he simply tilt his head down as his hair shadow his eyes.
"It must be true, after what Kari did it's because she was in love with you. If I would have known she loved you in the first place then none of this would have happen. It's all my fault"
She said on the verge of tears.
"Kari made her sacrifice from the beginning"
"What do you mean?"
She asked as she wipe her tears.
"She wanted her best friend to be happy, even if it broked her heart to see the one she loves drift away"
He said quietly.
