I ran. And ran. And ran. I ran so fast that even my rugged breath was overshadowed by my shoes smashing the paved ground, shoving other fleeting nobles and pariahs alike on my way inside the Capitol. In the Capital City of the Boshin Kingdom, there lie five seemingly impenetrable walls, God knows how many metres in height.
And this...this monster, Vespertite, managed to lead her army right at the gates of the fourth one! She's the spawn of the Devil! Both her, and her fucking sister! All they want in their miserable lives is to cause strife and draw blood!
I gotta find a way out of this situation, and fast, cause if Vespertite finds out I'm assisting tactically the Boshin Kingdom, my head will end up on a stake! Nay, after hearing what she does to prisoners, and taking account that I'm her ex, she'll feed me to the dogs instead!
The garrison troops -what remained of them anyway- pushed the doors of the Capitol for all of us to enter. We number up to at least a few thousands. The others have been purposely left at the outer walls to buy the Kingdom enough time for reinforcements, but after that last battle, I fear that everyone is either dead, or too afraid to make a move. It'll also affect them diplomatically if they lose more men, and Vespertite will take advantage of that to weaken them even more in peace talks. She already has the upper hand, so I think it's wise not to give her any more negotiating tools.
Once inside the building, I slowed down to marvel at the wondrous architecture and cultural decorations of the heart of the Kingdom, till a soldier quietly escorted me and other nobles inside the throne room of the King, where he and his advisors were praying defeated onto whichever deity they believed in.
My eyes pulsed and vibrated. I swelled from anger, swallowing my pride, interrupting rudely their ceremony.
"What are you doing?! Shouldn't you all be fleeing already?!"
The Queen, who wasn't taking part at the ceremony, instructed a full contingent of soldiers to man any defensive structure that was left in and around the Capitol. Her head flicked onto my direction, coming towards me with her hand on her forehead.
Her husband should be doing shit like this, not her! Ugh, useless scum! Man up, dipshit!
"I'm afraid we can't do that, Sir Caelo. All of the passages, while still operational, have been unfortunately discovered by your countrymen. We're not getting out of here that easily. In fact, we might not be getting out of here at all."
Her face, whilst exhausted, sounded a lot more composed than everyone in this room by far. I clenched my fists, seeing how the King could surrender in such a precarious situation, but the Queen put her hand on my cheek, sending shivers down my spine.
"Meanwhile, I could use some company. Ever since this war started, I've been left unattended."
Her innuendo made me forget all the dangers that are littered ahead, circumventing my priorities straight towards enjoying the sight of her revealing bosom, making me smile for a bit. I can relate: ever since I became engaged with Aristea, my... "activities" have been reduced to minimal intimate interactions.
"Let's relax for a bit, shall we? All this fighting has taken a toll on me."
I would normally follow her without any hesitation, but I can't exactly do that while Vespertite and her crazed lesbian bitches are after my ass.
Witnessing this, the Queen's face, who wasn't much older than me by the way, contorted displeased, sighing heavily.
"What more must a lady say to secure herself a capable man? Is everyone useless in here?"
Before she could say anything, I pushed my body onto hers, forcefully driving her to the wall. Looking deep in her surprised, emerald eyes, a flame rose within me, and kissed her passionately. I was more excited than usual, knowing that her husband was just a hair's breath away from potentially ordering his troops to murder me.
