It happened when I was driving on my way to my sister Teri's house for her 30th birthday gathering. It was September 11th, 2001, 8:30 am, when I woke up to one of the saddest days of my life.

My feet flew off the ground, reacting to the cold. I tried again, slowly placing my feet on the ice aged flooring. 'Stupid me,' I thought. 'I forgot to turn of the AC!' I stood up, adjusting to the cold temperature. I stared at my clock again. It was ten minutes after I was supposed to wake up. Then I asked myself why the heck my alarm didn't go off, and I answered my own question. Late party, late departure... No alarm. Since today was supposed to be a work day, I took the day off to be with my sister, resulting in double the work. I reached into my fridge and took out a plate of pancakes which I started to eat yesterday. I needed to hurry because I knew that it took about ten minutes to get to Teri's house, and I agreed to help her with party set up but I was running late. Finishing the pancakes and placing the empty plate into the sink, I walked into my bathroom and pulled my curly brown hair into a familiar bun. Then, I brushed my teeth. Afterwards, I grabbed my purple cheetah printed purse and raced out the door. It was exactly 8:45am when I opened my car door and hopped in.
