The Iron giant: Hogarth meets Deirdre

Chapter 36

The next day at school, Hogarth and Deidre were at their spot in an oak tree by the playground. Deidre was sharing her thoughts with Hogarth.

"Hogarth, I just have a feeling my dream could have something to do with Dad's research. In my dreams it tells of the robots heading towards Earth. I know I thought about it a lot, but this dream just felt too real, it didn't seem normal to me."
"Of course it's not normal. Your eyes were glowing and the lights were flickering and stuff. I think I have a hunch, what if that dream you and Giant have were having some sort of physic vision or
Deidre shook her head at that far fetched statement.

"Buddy, I think you've been reading too many comics, I don't think that was a physic vision. I'm not even physic, I'm a normal human being like you are."
"It doesn't seem like that to me. Heck, if Giant came from another planet, then anything is possible. The shoe fits well on that explanation."
"Whatever", Deidre said with an eye roll.
"But there's something els that we need to address; Mr. Popov. I know he has something to do with this research. Don't you remember the way he looked at you and Giant? It's like he knows and is possibly planning something we don't know."

"That seems true, actually. I just never thought that he would be a problem."
"I think he could be." Hogarth's face then lit up.

Hey, I have an idea! Maybe we can ask your dad if we can go over to Mr. Popov's house. That way we can find his study room and snoop around in there to see if we can find anything suspicious."
"Hogarth, seriously? What if Mr. Popov Catches us? Besides, it's not right around in other's stuff."
"But this is for our investigation. We have to know Mr. Popov knows and what he is possibly planning. Do I have a point?"
Hogarth stared Deidre in the eyes until Deidre sighed and gave in.

"Alright, Alright! I guess we could go and check that out. I guess I'm staring to realize he does knows and is hiding something."
"Finally, it's about time. Here how about after school, I'll ask Mom if I can go over to your house. If she says yes, we'll go over to your dad's and ask if we can visit Mr. Popov."

"That's sounds like a deal then. I sure dad would say yes. But you have to at least pretend that you're at least  nice to him."
Hogarth groaned, but reluctantly agreed.
"You're right on that one. That way he won't bother to he onto us."
"So that's our plan there for today," Deidre included.

After school as planned, Hogarth and Deidre rode their bikes over to Hogarth's house. They walked in to see Mrs. Hughes cleaning the house up a bit.
"Hey, honeys. How was school today?"
"It was good, Mom. Though, can I go over to Mr. Franklin's house to hang out with Deidre. We want to work on a comic book project."
"Yes, of course you can, but be home by dinner time. It's still a school night."
"We know, Mom. Thank you. We'll be heading over now."
"Alright, you all have a good time. Say hi to your father for me, Deidre."
"I will. Bye, Mrs. Hughes."
"Bye, sweetie."
