Scott hissed as his whalebone corset was tightened against him, his wings puffed up in resistance to the tightness that he was growing more and more used to, "Stupid corset," he hissed as Gem tightened the stays yet again.
"Sorry Scott, but you know that it's necessary and you literally asked me for this," Gem finished tying the strings, smiling at her handiwork for a few proud moments.
"Yeah yeah I know, thank you for the help, you did it perfectly" he smiled towards his friend.
Gem nodded her head slightly at the praise from her prince and friend.
"Now you should go get ready before it's too late, I don't want you to miss out on the ball. I'll be alright, Katherine will help with the dress since she is already ready," Scott waved the elf girl out, sighing as he was left as alone as the Crowned Prince could be while trying to dress for whichever formal event he was meant to be attending that night.
Katherine moved the pale blue dress off of the mannequin that stood in the corner of the Crowned Prince's drawing room, "Are you ready for this?" She asked as she moved the fabric carefully to avoid breaking or creasing it before she spread the skirts out to make it easier for Scott to get dressed.
Scott responded by stepping into the fabric with no hesitation whatsoever, "Tonight I must be perfect because I am announcing my primary consort," he stood straight as the dress was moved up his body with care and dedication.
He was eternally grateful for how natural threading his wings had become as he slotted them through their designated slits with ease.
Katherine moved the zipper up the prince's back to make sure everything fit as perfectly as it was meant to, "Will should be here soon so you can escort him to the ballroom, and he will be without the captain but all Merton knows is that you have 'befriended' the boy and wish to help him find his way in your father's Court so he won't come looking for Will before you can have him announced."
"And the page knows how to announce him using his correct title?" Scott placed his crown on top of his own head.
Katherine hummed, "Yes, it'll actually be Owen announcing him," she explained, helping Scott with his gloves.
A knock at the door drew Scott's attention to it, "Enter!" He called, he was certain that he knew who was in the other side of the wooden door.
Will opened the door, his suit was dark like his wings and he had a glass crown set on his head, intertwined with snowflakes that he himself had made in order to honour his mother and her family.
"You look absolutely stunning my love, I am so glad we managed to find one of your mother's family crowns," Scott waited for the rest of his own dress to be finished up before puffing out his wings and giving Will a chaste kiss on the cheek.
"And you are very handsome," Will returned the loving gesture, tilting his head in respect out of habit to both Scott and Katherine.
He was unsure what the protocol for meeting your future husband and his future wife was but he would be sure to learn soon.
"Will, my love, you are going to be the most powerful person in any room that you enter so long as my parents and I aren't in there. You are going to rank equally to if not higher than my brother, you do not bow to me unless it is an official introduction between us," Scott held his hand as Katherine set his jewelry in its places as the conversation went on.
Will only half listened to the lecture whilst he was fidgeting with his black satin gloves and rubbed his wrists through the material, their compression gloves had been left in their room at the command of Merton himself.
The material was uncomfortable against his burns, but they were trying his hardest to ignore the sharp pains he was feeling occasionally because of the lack of protection around the burn marks.
"Are you alright my dear?" Scott took Will's hand and kissed it lovingly through the fabric, "Do you have your gloves on you or do I need to send someone to go grab them for you?"
Will shook his head, "Do not worry about it, I need them less in this realm than in the human realm," Will explained, he felt guilty about lying but he did not want to speak about it, not right before such an important and happy occasion.
"If you need anything, anything at all, you need to do nothing more than ask me, yeah?" Scott adjusted his skirts, offering his arm to Will.
Will took the offered arm, "Of course my love."
"Before we go, I'll just quickly explain how everything is going to work. First, I'll be announced, greet my parents and then stand with them. Next will be Acho, same thing. Finally, I will be told to make my announcement and Owen will be the one to announce you, you will greet my parents and then we will be free to mingle," Scott mentally ticked off all the notes in his head.
Will took all of the information in, "Alright, yeah, I can do that."
Scott turned to Katherine, "Kat, you go ahead, we will be behind you soon."
Katherine gave both boys a quick hug, hurrying off to find her girlfriend.
Once they were left alone, Scott turned to face Will, "Are you sure you are ready for this."
Will cupped Scott's cheek,"Scott, I promise you that I am ready. I am ready for people to know who I am, and where I came from."
Scott nodded slowly, "Well then, may I?" He gestured towards the door.
"You absolutely may," Will took Scott's arm once again, letting him lead them down the halls of the royal palace, though it was weird when people bowed to him and Scott rather than him bowing to them.
