Chapter 4

Deet's Dreamfast

Rian's vision became one with Deet's, as she opened her memories up to him. Rian found his vision peering into the Caves of Grot, feeling himself being pulled deeper into the vast caves seeing moss covering the rocks.
Rian felt himself smile, his heart stopped, staring up at the twinkling shades of blue glistening along the ceiling and walls. Sounds of bats filled his ears and the sound of water trickling. Rian's ears suddenly pricked up, picking up the most beautiful sound echoing through the caves. It was like a siren's song. "This is where it started, Rian." Deet's voice spoke to him through their dreamfast, knowing they were still able to speak whilst sharing memories. "It's so beautiful here." Rian said, Deet felt herself smile. Rian's ears were filled by a lovely song echoing through the caves.

"Far from the brother's blinding light
Beneath the blanket of the long night
Grottans work in the dark and deep
Where the glow moss grows and where crawlies creep."

Singing in the darkness of her home, Deet sang as she looked over the twinkling moss that covered the rocks and walls. Rian watched her picking at the rocks, collecting the blue moss that glowed the most beautiful shade of blue. Filling her bag, Deet reached out to pick some moss but instead, Rian watched her eating it. Rian suddenly saw Deet's skin started glowing an luminous blue. Seeing nothing like this before. Deet felt her body shiver, letting out a soft sigh taking a step back until she gradually fell back and off the ledge. Rian felt his stomach go into his throat from the sudden drop. Falling further down, Deet's wings fanned out as she flew over the stretch of water with grace. Rian couldn't get enough. "HELLO NURLOC, IT'S FEEDING TIME!" Deet called out, Rian smiled, she looked so happy caring for these giant creatures. Flying high over the Nurlocs, Deet started dropping the glow moss she'd collected for them, rays of blue glowed all around. "DEEET! DEET, DEET, DEET!" Deet looked below, hearing her little brother calling to her from below. "OH HI FAMILY!" She called out to her two fathers, Deet suddenly heard the sound of a loud cry. "I HEAR YOU BABY!" She called out, flying towards the sound of a Nurloc crying... Landing on a ledge, Deet carefully lifted the smaller Nurloc into her arms. Rian saw how kind and gentle Deet was, caring for them like they were her own childling. Deet giggled. "Mmm, you hungry?" She said to the baby Nurloc, watching it eat the glow moss. Unknowingly upon lifting the Nurloc a string of purple slime stuck to the baby. "OW!" Deet cried, being bitten by the baby Nurloc. Suddenly a fully grown Nurloc roared in distress, frightening Deet. "AHH! OW MY WING!" Deet cried out in pain, the Nurloc yanking Deet by her wings before throwing her violently against the wall. Rian felt his heart stop by the brutal attack. Shaken to her core, Deet crawled into the nearest tunnel.

Coming into full view of the Sanctuary tree deep beneath Thra. "That Nurloc, attacked me." Deet spoke, feeling herself tearing. "It was not her fault. She has been consumed by the darkening." The tree spoke, Deet tilted her head. "What's, the darkening?" Deet asked only to see a long root coming towards her, swaying like a snake, a beautiful flower suddenly opened it's petals. Deet breathed, and without thinking, Deet touched the flower's center. Letting out a gasp, her eyes glowed blue with bright blue veins covering her face. "DEET!" Rian's voice echoed through their dreamfast. Deet let out a scream, different imagery rushing, a female Gelfling clutching something whilst being chased by Garthim. Rian felt his heart race he saw himself in Deet's vision. Rian sat on top of the Crystal of Truth, holding something in the air before plunging the shard into the crystal. Deet's vision rushed, witnessing herself sitting on a throne. Slowly looking up showing a devious smirk. Rian's skin crawled at the sight, her eyes glowed as the Darkening had consumed her. Letting out a painful yelp, Deet removed her hand, tears in her eyes, stumbling on her feet. Rian watched heavily, Deet panted, letting out her final breathe, Deet fainted, falling off the ledge and down into the darkness. Rian watched in horror. But he still wondered why Deet never told him of seeing him in her vision before they had even met...
