Relief was my only comfort as we made our way back inside the pack house. Walking hand and hand with the Alphas, I could finally let my guard down and not stress too much about everything. It was fleeting of course; my mind was always ready to give me something else to worry about. But for now, I was at ease.
Heavy gray-and-black clouds boiled over the night sky, the swirling winds hollering of an approaching storm. The breeze was steadily picking up, tossing my curls as we approached the large chateau. My footsteps hurried a little to avoid the few raindrops that sprinkled down. Just as we made it inside safely, the sound of thunder struck down. The sky opened up as the once calm night became a torrential squall.
"Phew, we almost got drenched," Nate said, patting down his damp black t-shirt. We all got wet, but nothing too bad. One minute more, and I'd have to swim my way home. Not really–but it did feel like we missed being stranded out there. The mindlink chatter began to buzz, everyone chiming in about the bad weather.
'Do you think it's going to flood?'
'Maybe? I heard it was a heavy storm. The forecast calls for some high winds.'
'Everyone should stay inside for tonight.'
'Yo, Does that mean no mandatory patrols tonight?'
'Obviously not! Stop complaining, Sergio, and get back to work!'
As I followed behind my mates up the grand, winding staircase, I peeked out through one of the tall foyer windows. Lightning flashed, illuminating the night sky as the heavy wind beat against the massive trees, thrashing them around with no problem. Everyone was probably right. It was a bad storm.
Entering the room last, I made it my sole mission in life to finally get out of my smelly clothes. While Theo made his way over to his reading area, Nate plopped himself down on the bed, leaving me to myself. The Alphas were probably used to the smell, but I had spent long enough inhaling my stinky BO, and my damn nose made it impossible for me not to notice it. Being a werewolf had its perks and all, but the incredible sense of smell was a real inconvenience—especially when you were around god-awful scents. Like who needs a nose 100,000 times more powerful than a human's?
Eww, can you imagine being near a dump? Yuck! Just the thought makes me nauseous.
Walking into our closet, I could already see the huge mess left for me. Left by the one and only Alpha whose true purpose in life was to annoy me—Nate. That charming asshole was so damn lazy. A pile of his dirty clothes was dropped right next to the laundry hamper.
It's right there! Literally a single inch over?!
He had to be doing this on purpose, why else would he be such a slob? How could Ezra even let him get away with this?! Nate knew how much this bothered me, and yet he never did anything about it. Sucking my teeth, I decided to not go off at the Alpha; he'd probably get turned on by it by stomping and yelling.
What a lazy idiot!
But honestly, this was such a minor inconvenience. I'd rather deal with this than anything else that's happened to me in the past 48 hours. My whole life was a mess I could never clean up.
Stripping down to my boxers, I emptied out my pockets, taking out my phone and keys before I made sure to throw my dirty clothes into the hamper. I checked my phone, texting Kash back about my plans for the evening before I sent my moms a message in our family group chat. I had promised to stay there tomorrow in exchange for one more night here with the Alphas.
