Four out of the six ninja were lounging around Kai's bedroom. They weren't exactly doing anything, just waiting. Waiting for Cole and Zane to return with news on what was happening outside.
Only a few more minutes passed before the two ninja walked through the door. "Well, we're happy to report that it's all déjà vu down there," Cole announced. "Trynia, Doxton, and Fervendale are here in the banquet hall."
Jay glanced at them. "Shouldn't we be in there with them?" he asked.
Cole shrugged as he closed the door behind him. "The senseis and Pixal are there," he said, "and I don't think the princess would want us there. You know, since she claims she doesn't need us anymore."
Formerly lying on his back, Lloyd sat up on Kai's bed. "My mom took Laurie out for the day," he added, "so I guess it's just us."
Sitting on the other side of the bed, Kai turned to the green ninja. "How come you don't trust a stranger with Laurie but you trust your mom?"
"That logic doesn't make any sense, Kai," Nya commented.
Lloyd's brow crinkled. "Yeah—what?" he fumbled. "Of course I'd trust my mom more than a stranger."
Jay walked over to punch Kai's shoulder. "Seriously, what do you have against Misako?" he snorted.
Kai crossed his arms. "Nothing," he lied.
Lloyd rolled his eyes. "Sure," he muttered disbelievingly.
"Anyway..." Cole moved over to Kai's closet, opening it and looking around. "I'm guessing you hid that book in the closet, didn't you?"
"Nope!" Kai said proudly.
"No?" Cole turned to him, raising an eyebrow. "Then where'd you put it?"
"Under the bed!"
Cole and the others laughed. "Wow, because that's so much better," the black ninja chuckled.
Frustration flared in Kai's gaze as he slid onto the floor and crouched beside the bed.
"Honestly, if I was searching for something, under the bed would be the first place I'd check!" Jay agreed with Cole.
Kai patted the floor under the bed and gasped. "It's gone!"
The other ninja raced over to him in panic. "What?" Cole gasped out.
Then a smirk crossed Kai's face and he pulled out the book. "Gotcha," he snickered.
Cole huffed, stepping back a pace as the others muttered to themselves. "Jerk," the black ninja grumbled.
Kai sat on the bed again and the team gathered around. "So what's up with this book, anyway?" Jay wondered, tapping the big jewel on the cover.
"I don't know," Kai answered. "Yet."
Jay took the book from his hands. "Is it some kind of weapon?" he mused as he turned it all around.
"I do not see how a book can be used as a weapon," Zane replied in confusion.
"What if you throw it?" Jay suggested. Before anyone could stop him, he threw it across the room. It hit the lamp in front of Kai's mirror and knocked it to the floor.
Crash!
Jay winced. "See?"
Despite Kai cursing under his breath, Cole seemed thoughtful. "Jay could have some kind of point," he realized. "It's definitely not a literal weapon, but something written in there could—I don't know—be used against someone, like a weapon."
