Screams.
Cries.
Cries of pain, of agony.
No... No...
Blood.
Blood he spilt.
The blood of his friends.
His best friend. Half-dead at his feet.
No...
His girlfriend.
No!
"Jay!"
Jay jerked from his thoughts, alarmed. "Huh—what?"
In front of him, Nya frowned. "You zoned out there," she went on.
"Uh..." Jay gave himself a shake, attempting to shake the memories away with it. "Well, you know me," he laughed uneasily. "Always daydreaming."
His only answer was a shot of water. Spluttering, he skittered backward and raised his nunchucks to meet Nya's spear. He had nearly forgotten they were training together.
"About?" Nya grunted as he shoved her away from him.
"Nothing important," Jay replied, swinging his nunchucks. He felt a bolt of shock as his weapon nearly hit her shoulder, but she quickly blocked the blow. Even so, he was still in shock and didn't notice Nya's spear sweeping his legs until he was on the ground.
Nya put her hands on her hips as she stood over him. "You're clearly distracted about something," she huffed. Slipping her spear onto her back, she held out her hand and helped Jay back to his feet.
Jay attached his nunchucks to his belt, feeling better to have them off his hands. He thought about telling his Yang what he had seen, but before he could open his mouth a new voice cut into the room.
"Hey!"
It was Kai.
The couple turned to see the red ninja along with Zane in the doorframe of the training room. "Sensei Wu wants us to check up on our prisoner," Kai continued.
Jay bit back a growl. He wasn't exactly fond of Alfonso—ever since the intruder had tried to make a move on Nya.
Nya seemed just as irritated. "Then let's go," she sighed, taking Jay's hand as they followed Zane and Kai into the hallway.
As they walked, Jay gazed down at Nya's hand in his, eyes falling on her engagement ring. A small smile crossed his face as he relived the scene. "Honestly, I... I didn't know if you were gonna say yes," he murmured.
Nya glanced sideways at him, mirroring his smile. "Why wouldn't I?"
Jay's face flushed. " I really don't deserve a girl as amazing as you," he stuttered.
Nya nudged him. "Oh, shut up," she scolded with a smile. "You're the only guy I'd want to be with."
Jay only turned away.
Nya's smile began to fade as she observed the blue ninja's darkened expression. Pondering this, she stared at him until the realization came to her. "Jay, you're not thinking about—"
"No," Jay interrupted shortly.
Nya blinked. She wasn't convinced, but the blue ninja clearly didn't feel like talking about it.
The group reached the entrance to the dungeon and ran into Skylor.
"Princess?" Kai began. "What are you doing back here?"
