It didn't take me long before I arrived at Joe's Pizza as it is not far from the vet.
When I entered the place there weren't a lot of people, just a grandma and grandson eating their pizza, laughing and making jokes and a guy in all black with sunglasses on staring outside the window with his arms crossed. That guy's kinda creepy.
"Buttercup! How have you been?" Joe said as he pulled me in for a hug.
Joe has been calling me Buttercup since the first time I came here and started a conversation. My therapist suggested it to me and it annoyed me at first, but I can't ever see Joe calling me by my actual name.
"I-I'm doing fine Joe. I'm just here to get the usual," I smiled.
"Isn't it Chris' turn today?" he asked as he put in the order.
"Yeah, but I offered to go this time," I reassured him.
"You're too kind for this world, Buttercup," he shook his head.
While waiting for the pizza, Joe and I talked about what had happened lately. Joe's son turned three this week and I told him to tell Matheo I wished him a happy birthday.
And as that conversation ended our pizza was ready and I tried to pay again like I did at the beginning of our conversation, but Joe insisted that it was on the house.
"Okay, Okay. B-but I'll pay you back next time, Joe," I gave in.
"No, you won't," he smiled.
"Okay, Joe. I have to go. Bye!" I waved goodbye and he waved back.
I'd been walking for a while and it started to get cold and my feet were also getting tired.
I wonder if I could take that shortcut Chris showed me a couple of weeks ago. No, I can't do that. It's dark and not safe. But my feet are literally killing me.
After contemplating whether I should take the shortcut or not, I decided that even though it was dangerous I should take the shortcut and quickly get to Chris' Dad's house to eat some of this delicious pizza.
As I started to walk through the shortcut I heard someone walk behind me, but I thought nothing of it because Chris told me that his whole class knew of it.
But the person behind me started walking faster and before I could do anything, everything went black.
"I don't like that she's still outside," my Dad paced back and forth as he shook his head.
My Dad sees Julie as his second daughter and treats her like his real daughter. My Dad has done a lot for Julie and knows she feels guilty about it so he offers her to do little jobs for him that she thinks is paying him back for all he's done for her.
"She'll be fine Dad. I'm sure she just got distracted talking to Joe or maybe the place is just busy," Christie said trying to convince us, but I think mostly herself.
Xav has mostly been quiet like usual, but he seemed on edge.
"I don't know, even when it did happen it didn't take her more than thirty minutes," Xav mumbled.
"That's it. I'm calling him," My dad stood up to get his phone and dialled Joe's phone number.
My Dad left the room to talk with Joe and quickly returned to the living room where we were sitting.
"What did he say?" I nervously asked.
"Joe was friendly as always, said Julie came in and ordered our usual. They talked for a bit and Julie left soon after the pizza was done," Dad said.
"This would've never happened if you just went on your turn, Chris," Xav groaned in frustration.
"It's not your fault, Chris. How could you know something would happen?" Christie tried to reassure me.
"No, it is. I knew it was my turn to go but I didn't want to and I kinda took advantage of Julie by letting her go by herself so late," I said.
We all sat there in silence, staring at the TV screen in front of us anxiously waiting for Julie to arrive.
And all we could do was wait.
