Malachi

I was at my desk looking at Brianna's picture. She was gorgeous; her eyes gazed back at me and her smile revealed slight dimples in her cheeks. Her soft, black curls draped down on her petite frame. I didn't expect her to look like she did, honestly I didn't have any expectations. I loved talking to her and that's what kept me coming back for more.

I liked her personality and her laugh, it made me smile. I wanted to see it in person, but for now I would have to accept her picture. I was deep in a daydream when Amanda walked in.

"Mr. Brooks, you seem to be lost in thought. Actually that has been happening a lot lately."

"Hey Amanda," I said, shutting my phone off. "How's it going with Miranda?" I said to distract her.

"Still beautiful as ever," she said sitting down at the chair nearest the door. I joined her in the sitting area. "I don't know if I will be able to ask her to the gala."

"Really? Have you at least spoken to her?"

"Yes,"

"What did you say?"

"I said....um..," she hesitated because I knew she hadn't spoken to Miranda as of yet. "I said, uh... Can you hold the elevator please?"

"And then what?"

"I said thank you."

"Unbelievable." I said.

"So, what about you? Have you spoken to your lady from the building yet?"

"Yes I have," I said as I remembered running into her as I was leaving her building.

"And what did you say?"

"Well, I spoke to her as she got out of her Uber,"

"Really? So she agreed to go to the gala?"

"We didn't get that far?"

"How far did it go?" Amanda asked, getting excited.

"It went as far as me walking her to the entrance of the building and saying she hopes to run into me again."

"Really?"

"Yeah, but I have a conflict," I said, remembering Bri's picture.

"What do you mean?"

"I've met someone else?" I stammered. Amanda's eyes widened and she leaned forward.

"Are you serious? Tell me all the details."

"Well I met her," I hesitated.

Am I really going to tell her I met Bri by making prank phone calls?

"I met her through an dating app." I hoped Amanda would believe the lie and ask as few questions as possible.

"Oh really?" Her eyes widened even larger.

"Yeah." I said thinking about Bri and wanting to meet her.

"It's been a long time since you've had a dilemma," she said, reminding me of the situation with Rianne. "The last was with Rianne, right?" Amanda knew it was and to her it was a running joke.

I thought Rianne was the one who would change my life. She went along with everything I had to deal with but it was Amanda who revealed Rianne's reasons for being with me. Rianna pursued me for business and image purposes only. If she ever fell in love with me, I honestly don't know. After finding out her motives, I felt that everything that came out of her mouth was a lie. She's never really gotten over it.
