Structure: What to include?
■ Opening
■ Introduction
· Greeting
· Apologize for not writing & explain why / Thank your friend for the letter
· Personal Question & Assumption/Compliment
· Mention the reason for writing (if applicable)
■ Main Body (2-3 paragraphs)
· Address all points
· Make sure you've included all of the components listed above
■ Conclusion
· Reason for closing
· Suggestion for meeting up (if applicable)
■ Sign off
A very basic template can be found in the following chapter. Feel free to use whichever ideas you personally fancy. Needless to say, you could also use your own ideas and alter the structure as you see fit. The following template is not the end-all-be-all of writing Informal Letters! We could think of it as a very 'safe' and basic guide to follow, regardless of the context. However, I'd advise against experimenting with the structure and taking risks (especially during exams!) unless you're confident your Informal Letter will turn out just fine!
