*20 minutes

Structure:

[Introduction]

*Paraphrase the question (1-2 sentences/lines).

[Overall Statement]

*Briefly mention the main/most prominent feature (most obvious trend).

*No statistics/numbers to be mentioned yet!

[Main Body] (2+ paragraphs)

*Write down whatever you can see that is important, interesting or unexpected.

*the highest and lowest points

*the points that are equal (if any)

*Make comparisons (where possible)

*Use comparatives and/or superlatives

(       i.e. lower than (-er + than)

           the lowest (the + -est)         )

*Group items (if possible)

*Analyze!

*Statistics: mention specific numbers, figures, years, etc.

[Conclusion] (optional: recommended if you haven't reached the word limit)

*Summarise the most important information that you have already mentioned in your essay in 1-2 sentences or lines.

*Draw conclusions from the data given.

(*If 2 graphs are given, generally link them.)



Notes:

* Avoid including your own opinion.

*Tenses to use: Present tenses or Past tenses (Keep it simple. Do not mix your tenses!)

*You may use brackets. (Not recommended)

*Vary your sentence structures.

*Use synonyms of phrases.

*Use formal linking words and phrases accordingly.

*The Introduction & Overall Statement can be merged and written as a single paragraph.
