Author's pov
Rihaan had not expected her to remember his birthday at all. Right now, looking at her holding that cute, small cake with Happy Birthday future husband written on it made him feel something he isn't ready to accept yet. And he doesn't think he ever will be again now.
But his heart doesn't listen to the logical side of his brain, it still skips a beat.
His mouth doesn't coordinate with his mind and it still tilts his lips up in the biggest smile.
"Thank you," he says blowing the one candle she had put in the centre of the cake.
"You have to make a wish first, doofus," she says playfully rolling her eyes at him.
And that was the exact same thing she said to him exactly 10 years ago. And the flashback starts playing in Rihaan's mind.

Rihaan's pov
"Welcome to the adulthood, Rih" Ishika says to me. She is one of Kiara's bestfriend and part of our group. And always ready to flirt with me, apparently.
I turned eighteen today and Kiara and my bestfriend Kabir had arranged a surprise birthday party for me at Kabir's house. It is amazing.
The only problem is I am not getting any alone time with my girlfriend because she is busy making sure that every thing here stays intact. Why, you ask? As far as I know Kiara was supposed to host the party at her house but had to cancel at the last minute and before she could start freaking out Kabir offered her his house seeing as it was free today. My girlfriend is busy being thankful, ugh.
"You know you and I are the only ones here who have already turned eighteen. What a coincidence, right," Ishika says putting her hand on my arm. I quickly take a step back.
"There are others too in our class. We are just not that good friends with them. Turning eighteen in 12th grade is not a big deal, Ishika," I say and I guess I give her a failed attempt at smiling too.
"Kabir!" I shout before Ishika can reply to me.
"Yeah?" he asks coming towards me.
"Thank you for lending Ki your house for my birthday party tonight, bro."
"But.." he asks me, knowing I wouldn't have called him over just to say thanks.
"She has been trying to keep the place pristine the whole evening, I even saw her cleaning after people. Could you please just ask her to relax and maybe put the idea in her mind that it's her boyfriend's birthday and he wants her with him?" I ask with a sheepish look. What Ki is doing is great but I am a selfish asshole. It's my birthday, I deserve her tonight.
"I have told her to stop worrying 12 times now. I'll go ask Naina to help me out with her, your girlfriend will be with you in 10 minutes tops," he says looking towards Naina, his girlfriend, Ki's another bestfriend. As per Ki, Naina is her soulsister but I like to keep all the soul related titles for myself in her life.
I am her soulmate, period. And there is no sharing of that soul with others.
Kabir goes off and Ishika is there again. For hell's sake doesn't she has others to talk to? Doesn't Ki see this side of hers?
"You know, she should give you more time. At least on your birthday," and her hand is about to reach for my shoulder again but I hold her wrist before it can.
"I have a surprise because of her. You are at this party because of her. Be thankful," I say through gritted teeth and move past her to go find my girlfriend myself.
