Johnny had Rae and Miguel cleaning up the place, preparing it for the inspection. It was better than the karate lessons though, at least they could talk whilst they were scrubbing the floor.
"Looking good." Johnny praised, walking through the door. "Make sure you get both sides. After you're done with that, you can take care of these exposed wires. That's gonna be a lot of work."
"Stop patronising us." Rae told her father.
"What does any of this have to do with karate, sensei?" Miguel asked, eager to learn more.
"Do not question my methods. Just be thankful you're not a sumo wrestler. Those guys have to wipe their sensei's asses." While saying this, Johnny had opened a can of beer and flicked the cap.
Miguel glanced around the room and saw a box with trophies sat inside it.
"So, I, uh, see you were a karate champion, sensei." Miguel stated.
"You don't have to call me sensei every time."
"I'm sorry, sensei. I, um.. Sorry. I'm sorry." Miguel apologised.
"Come on dad it's story time." Rae reminded him of their McDonald's meal several days ago.
"I won a couple All Valley tournaments. Didn't lose a single point in my junior year."
"All right!" Miguel cheered. "What happened in your senior year?"
"This isn't 20 questions. Get back to scrubbing." Johnny directed the teenagers, who did as he said.
Moments later, some pop music began playing. It really confused Johnny, who only listened to 80s rock.
"Where's that garbage coming from? You hear that?" He asked Rae. She nodded and looked around.
Miguel stopped the music by answering his phone.
"Sorry, yeah. Hey!" He spoke on his phone. "Yeah, uh, debate's running a little late." He paused. "Oh, OK. Love you too."
"Don't tell me you have a girlfriend." Johnny hinted. Rae smirked.
"That was my mom, actually. I told her I joined the debate team 'cause she doesn't approve of violence."
"Yeah, what about your dad?" Johnny asked Miguel. "Is he okay with you getting your ass kicked up and down Reseda Boulevard?"
"Oh, I never, uh, really knew my dad, so.." Miguel admitted.
Rae gave a guilty look over to Johnny. She knew that he never knew his dad, and his step-dad (aka her step-grandfather) was a bit of an entitled pain in the ass.
"All right, well, stop standing there. Get back to training." He ordered Miguel.
"OK, yeah. Sorry, OK." Miguel apologised. Rae told him that he did that too much.
"And change that ringtone. Get some Guns N' Roses or something." Johnny suggested. Rae nodded in agreement due to the fact that she was raised only listening to all the 80s rock groups.
"What's Guns N' Roses?" Miguel asked.
Rae looked appalled. Johnny looked like he just watched an octopus give birth. They seemed traumatised that Miguel had just asked that.
"I'm gonna pretend you didn't say that." Johnny told Miguel, then walked into his office.
"I need to show you some Guns N' Roses at some point." Rae told Miguel, who nodded at her idea.
"Please tell me you at least know AC/DC." Rae added.
"I think you mean ABCD." Miguel wrongly corrected her. He was doomed.
