Jackson
'How about another weekend together?'
I grinned down at my phone as I texted my mate.
"Hey man, what're you smiling at?" Liam asked as he approached me. We had just finished one of our mandated training sessions. Sparring with each other in a large, open field. I quickly locked my phone.
"Is it who I think it is?" he asked while elbowing me and grinning.
"Fuck off," I grumbled.
"You still haven't told me who he is. Protective much?" I sighed at his statement.
"Since when is it your business, Porter?" I asked him.
"Since I'm your Beta, Ward," he retorted.
Dammit.
He has a point.
I sighed.
"His name is Ben," I told Liam quietly.
"Ben? Does he have a last name?" he asked.
"Stirling," I replied.
"I can't say I know of any Stirlings," he stated.
"His parents died when he was a kid," I informed him.
"Ah, that makes more sense," he replied.
We were quiet for a moment.
"Still haven't told dear ol' dad?" he joked. I scoffed, and shook my head.
"Then how have you been explaining that?" he asked as he gestured to Ben's mark. I didn't bother covering it when it was just Liam and I, since he already knew about my mate.
"He hasn't seen it," I responded. Liam laughed.
"How long do you think that'll last?" I shoved him.
"As long as I fucking need it to," I retorted.
My phone buzzed. I opened it to see a message from Ben.
'Of course! :)' I smiled at his response.
'Let's meet tonight ;)' I sent my message to Ben.
"What about your mate?" I asked Liam. He looked down.
"I've been visiting him everyday, bringing him things he might need," he paused, "He's just so closed off. It seems like it took no time at all for you and your mate to be so happy together, and I'm grasping as straws to get him to open up to me," he confessed.
"Maybe he has a past," I suggested, "He is a rogue. Who knows what he's been through."
He nodded.
"It seems like my father has been too distracted with other affairs to pay him a visit, though," I pointed out. He sighed.
"Yeah, at least there's that," he whispered.
"Has he told you his name?" I asked.
"Luca," he responded. I nodded.
"I don't know how long it'll be. But I think father is just about ready to hand over his title," I told him, "I can guarantee you, once I'm Alpha, he will be free."
"Thank you, Jackson," he patted my back.
"Now, if you go doing some stupid shit like sneaking him out for a night, you've got to be careful. That's all you at that point."
"Yeah, I know,"

I drove down the road after just having met Ben and picking him up.
