I struggled to breathe as I lie on the cold, stone floor. The only sound that could be heard was the gentle chattering of my teeth from the frigid temperature of this cell. The hard floor hurt my bones which were much more prominent now. I was only given enough food to stay alive.

Barely.

I had given up completely on trying to grasp any concept of time. All I knew was it had been a long time. I looked down at my foot that was covered in dry blood, and throbbing. Much like the rest of my body. I placed my hand on my stomach as I did so, and rubbed with my thumb. I knew it was empty. The amount of blood I had passed after a certain beating let me know that. Not to mention the unimaginable pain of the miscarriage.

"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you," I whispered. The dreams and hallucinations of the boy stopped after the miscarriage. He had to have been our child.  A tear fell from my eye as I thought of him. He didn't even have a name.

"It's not too late to give him a name." I heard Ivy tell me. I was slightly surprised to hear my wolf communicating with me, as he had been quiet recently. He had fronted to take at least half of the beatings for me, which I was grateful for.

Ivy was right. I could still name him. I remembered Jackson's voice in my head.

"Okay, okay. What about August?"

"August? I am not naming my child after a month, Jackson!"

I smiled at the memory. August. It was a beautiful name, simply because Jackson came up with it. That will be my angel baby's name. August.

I closed my eyes and imagined August. His brown curls that resembled my own, with Jackson's beautiful grey eyes. Maybe I could see him soon. Hold him. If there was mercy left in the world, I would.

My thoughts were interrupted at the sound of my cell door opening. My heart raced at the sight of this monstrosity of evil that stood before me. I saw him almost daily, yet the fear of him never dwindled.

"Stand up," he demanded. It took every bit of strength I had left to stand with my shaking legs. Pain exploded across my face as I hit the ground. My vision was blurred from the impact, and I didn't have time to even cradle my face before the Alpha kicked me, which sent me into the wall of the cell. Tears were freely falling down my face as I breathed heavily. He took out his anger on me with many more hits and kicks, and even choked me until I passed out and came to seconds after. Fresh, red blood was pouring out of my new wounds, beginning to cover my body.

As I lie helpless on the floor, the Alpha approached me and removed a syringe from his pocket. He uncapped the needle and gripped my arm roughly. I didn't have strength to even move when he did so. I felt a sharp sting as he inserted it directly into my bloodstream. The liquid was cold as he injected it, and began to burn. It felt similar to what he whipped me with before. I closed my eyes and accepted the feeling before a sickening crack was heard across the cell as an agonizing feeling struck across my arm. I looked down to see the Alpha removing his hands from my arm as he left my wrist unnaturally bent.

My mouth gaped at the pain, but that was the only reaction my body would allow. I could feel myself getting weaker by the second as the burning traveled through all of my veins. Just  before the darkness overtook my vision completely, I could hear the Alpha speak.

"I don't need you getting in the way today," was all he said before he left. I let the darkness consume me, and prayed death would soon follow.
