"Jun Hee!" your voice echoes through the tense silence, but he doesn't even glance back, his steps resolute as he walks away, intensifying the already palpable atmosphere of suspicion and distrust. The weight of his departure hangs heavy in the air, adding another layer of complexity to the already fraught situation.
You sigh. You'd gone over this plan multiple times with Na Hee and Jun Hee. Why did he want to vote right away? There was still a possibility that Mi Na was framed. You couldn't risk anything, no matter how much you wanted to avenge your friends.
—
You'd been joined by Yoon Seo and Jung Won as Kyung Jun held the black plastic against the window while you secured it with a strip of duct tape. You needed the bathroom to be as dark as possible for the neon paint to be visible.
You decided you'd investigate the scene of the crime further because voting off a citizen would make Na Hee's death in vain. You wanted to honor her by finding the mafia who took her from you, you wanted to see them suffer.
"Get the light." you said, plugging in the UV light and lowering it towards the floor. The beam reveals no footprints, just scattered splashes of paint that glow eerily in the darkness.
"The paint is everywhere," Yoon Seo observed, glancing around the room. "but there was just a drop on Mi Na's shoe. Everyone else's shoes were clean."
"The mafia could've come in barefoot." Kyung Jun suggested.
"That's possible." you murmured, considering the idea.
"Let's look up there." Jung Won suggested, pointing to the trapdoor where Na Hee hid.
"Here, I'll help you up." Kyung Jun offered, extending a hand. You accept, and he carries you onto the counter, steadying you by placing both hands onto your thighs.
Peering through the hole, you spot a steel bar with blood splattered around it. You quickly retrieve your phone and take a photo, knowing it'll prove useful later
"There's blood." you point out.
"Blood?" Kyung Jun echoes, assisting you in your descent, gently lifting you down.
"Yeah, I'd say someone was badly hurt."
you remarked. "Na Hee had no wounds.""Then..." Jung Won's eyes widen. "whose blood is that?"
You turn to Kyung Jun. "I'll speak to Jun Hee." He nods, "Okay."
You're roaming around the building in search for Jun Hee, when you see him just outside the lobby's entrance.
"Jun Hee." you call out. His back was towards you, and he turned at your voice. "I have something to show you."
He gestures for you to join him on the steps at the entrance of the youth center, and you take a seat beside him. Pulling out your phone, you show him the pictures.
"The mafia could've gotten hurt while looking for Na Hee." you explain, swiping through the pictures you took. "I don't think its right to corner Mi Na because of her shoes."
"Okay," he finally responds. "but if we don't find anything, we'll vote for Mi Na anyway."
"Jun Hee." you started, trying to reason with him. "The mafia could be using her like they used Jin Ha. I failed him, I can't fail her too. We might miss out on getting them again."
"The evidence points to Mi Na right now." he snaps, raising his voice at you. "We can't let the mafia be in control forever."
He sees your taken aback expression and tones down, looking a little guilty. "I'm sick of seeing people die." he admits, shifting his gaze to Sang Hwan's body on the road.
"Then let's find them." you respond, trying to comfort him. "Let's find Yoon Seo and Jung Won."
You find them in the eating area, where Yoon Seo had already devised a plan.
"The mafia kept deceiving us." she explains. "How about we do the same?"
"How?"
"What if we say we found a camera Na Hee set up in secret." she suggests. "But it's dead so we're charging it? They'll do anything to destroy just like they did the camera footage."
"We'll seperate the two most suspicious people..." she continued. "and create a situation."
"They'll have to show themselves." you think out loud, starting to understand where she's going with this.
"Do you think it'll work?" Jung Won asks, unsure.
"We must force them to make a move." Yoon Seo replied, she was right. You've all been just been basing your suspicions on what was given to you by the mafia. You were willingly being fed false information. You guys needed to submitting to the mafia and start forcing them to reveal their hand.
"Yes." Jun Hee agreed. "Let's do it."
